Yes it is. Apparently I made the mistake of thinking that the mileage numbers shown on the sticker were for my type truck: a 2wd double cab. Silly me.

Yeah.... Toyota use some EPA loophole to rate access cab 5 lug trucks the same as double cab prerunners. There is no way those two get the same mileage. Kind of screwed up. I do get close to EPA, I'm used to getting better than EPA highway though.

I have ran almost a half tank through my 4 cylinder 4X2 and it is averaging right at 24 mpg, highway and city driving.

Yup which is why the mileage on the 4cyl 2wd went down when it got more aerodynamic and 2 more gears. In reality it went up but they weren't able to use the low riding base model for MPG specs as it doesn't exist anymore. I kinda figured that when was buying mine and they all had the same MPG spec, I get close at 23 average so I'm not upset.

I don't mind the fuel mileage my Tacoma gets. I traded in a 2003 Dakota 7 months ago that got 20mpg. A guy in this building has a Dakota with a V8 and he gets 10mpg.

All is good in Tacoma land!

Wait...let me get this straight. 7 months ago you traded a Dakota for a Canyonrado. Then within the past month or so, you traded your Coloranyon for a new Tacoma...right? Man, you're as bad as me. LOL

Yeah and what is sad the 2003 Dodge Dakota only had just over 43,000 miles. Mother bought it new and drove it 1 year, I came from a 91 Ford Ranger, (Miss that truck) I came into some money back in March so I thought I would give GM ONE MORE try. Had it built the way I pretty much wanted it. Just the overall cheapness of the 15 Colorado and the issue with the door seals leaking with the B.S. from GM customer care was enough for me for the remainder of my life. I love this little 4 cylinder Tacoma, fun to drive as I'm in no hurry to get anywhere. I'm going to fight the urge off in 2018 to buy a first year production Ford Ranger. We will see how that goes. If Black Betty don't give me any trouble between now and then I'll stay faithful to Toyota.

The 5 lugs can reach those numbers easily.

    Then go away!

Many of us can afford more too, we would just rather spend it in more intelligent places, like retirement, nicer houses or family outings.

You are in the 4cyl forum under a thread about mileage. You are adding nothing to this discussion.

gazingwa does make a good point. This doesn't appear to be the thread for you.

I've averaged over 30 mpg for the 80,000 miles I've put on my 2005 over the last 10 years on my 5-lug. No Lie.

I am boarding a plane to Idaho to S your D right now just because I am so impressed by your devil may care attitude! Not only that, but you can afford a gas burner? I'm transfixed. Ya know what? Forget the plane, Ill just drive to idaho in my 4 banger to S your D, it'd be cheaper than flying anyway.

Have you ever driven an old carbureted 20R or 22R 4 cylinder? Now drive a 2TR-FE equipped Tacoma with a 5 speed and you will think you're driving a V8. Those old 4 cylinders were DOGS! Reliable as hell, but slow af. The one in my '79 is a fine example.

I'd say the 2.7 pulls the truck around nicely. The only times I had trouble with my old one was in strong headwinds and long, steep grades. Had no trouble keeping it at 75-80 down the freeway and staying with the flow of traffic.
