I'm just going to state my experience here. YMMV.

I noticed that when I ran premium (91)/name-brand fuel (like Shell), i got better mileage. enough better that it was actually cheaper per mile than regular 85. A nearby gas station now carries 88 octane Ethanol Free fuel. I started using that, my last tank of city only driving (with little stints on the freeway from here to there) I got 19mpg. 08 DBL with slightly larger tires and a lift, not trying to hyper-mile or anything like that. Just driving.

So, my experience has been that if everything else is in good shape. Synthetic oils in transfer case, diff's, etc. Good plugs, clean filters, proper tire pressure, driving smoothly, etc. Look at your fuel source. A lot of times cheap gas can be more expensive. Premium is more than just octane. A lot of times the fuel can be cleaner, a lot of times it can be old and nasty because nobody else buys it. My local ethanol free station is wildly popular with car/motorcycle nuts.

Also on a side note, the engine stank to high hell for a few tanks until I was able to flush out all that nasty-ass corn gas. FWIW. :)

True that. The dealer probably is full of it.

I'm going to run this "Nasty-ass corn gas" out and fill her up with some Ethanol Free. I don't put any Ethanol fuel in the Airplane, lawnmower, weed eater, or pressure washer so why put it in a truck engine? Good (No Shit)idea! The FAA catches you with any Ethanol in your bird and they'll get ya. That shit gums up in plane motors.

There is a "pure gas" app that helps you find ethonol free stations based on your location.

Not only have I noticed better mileage, but the truck runs a lot smoother, way better throttle response, etc. As you would expect actually. :)

Here, you can see where I switched to Ethonol free (and one trip with the trailer) :)

It is already under 2 dollars in the Houston area. I saw 1.98 a gallon on the news yesterday.

Don't let it warm up, you get 0 mpg and it warms up faster driving it. +1 on the short trips not letting it warm up, and winter ethanol will lower mpg a little too.

Tune up is in order. I've owned a '12 and '13 with 4.0 6-Speeds and both consistently got 20mpg+ Highway (65mph). My commute to work is 24 miles in the mountains (about 3,000 vertical) and I average about 19mpg.

Report back with your findings. Good luck OP.

Pretty negligible. Wish they had enthanol free stations near me. Closest one is like 40 miles away.

That is incredibly cheap! Wish we could get that here. That's $0.47 a litre. We're currently paying 1.08 a litre ($4.54/US gal). I know of other places in the states that have it worse though. If my gas was $0.47 a litre I wouldn't care about my fuel economy at all because I'd barely feel it at the fill ups.

I've had to tweak the readout on my ultra guage and I am getting better numbers coming back to me now. more like 13MPG city.

I'm running synthetic oil everywhere (changed it all myself) did the spark plugs a couple months ago and the filter relatively new as well. I need to calibrate the ultraguage more, but it's cold weather, start and idle, and then a short commute are killing me at the pumps right now.

Yes. It will set your ecu back to factory settings. Right now you're driving it based on its previous owners driving habits. When you set it back to factory settings it starts over, based on your driving style. Hope this helps.:)

Sounds reasonable. What's the brakes have to do with it? I read that I should disconnect the battery for a while is all.

Not sure? Maybe to use up any (stored energy) that could be left in the system. After the reset, it takes the ecu several starts, I've heard upto 7, to settle in? And in my experience, a lot of city, rural and highway driving mixed. In my case, my mpg's dropped after the reset. Mpg's went up substantially, immediately after the ecu,( made up its mind!!!). That, along with the ECU's rich air/fuel ratio settings in cold temps and, in your case, cold starts, is the main reason for the extreme mpg differences that's reported. Again, hope this helps.

I filled up my 2014 TRD Sport automatic V6 today and got 20.6 mpg on the last tank. That's mixed driving; some in town stop and go and some at 73 mph or so on the interstate. The gas was a Costco regular unleaded. My worst tank in recent history was 18.5 mpg, with most being 20+.

I see a lot of people bad mouthing the 6spd. I get over 17mpg consistently and I have a very heavy foot. It's not the transmission that gets horrible gas mileage it's the driver.

OP, in your case it just seems like all you to is accelerate and decelerate. That's horrible for gas mileage. Gotta go for some longer trips to get a better look at it.
