ok i know there are threads on this but not exactly.... ever since i had the 305 stt's ive had a little vib, no big deal.. well it had gotten worse and a few days ago i took my truck to get the tires/wheels balanced and rotated. Now the 2 on the back are at about 30% tread an the 2 front are about 60%. they balanced them with the weighted bead bags inside and i hit the road at about 45, stupid thing about jerked the steering wheel outta my hand, so i took it back and they said i needed a driveshaft carrier bearing..ok.. check.. they also said the 2 tires with 30% tread were outta round and they put those back on the rear... ok... 0-45 mph.. everythings smooth and dandy BUT i get to about 55mph+ and the whole cab, floor, steering wheel is shaking vigorously... idk if its just the tires? or what??
    any input? thanks guys

Sounds like a balance issue... Take it to another shop to get balanced.

Well when A tire isn't balanced properly it will tend to wobble at higher speeds because they aren't balanced... So the more momentum A unbalanced tire gets the more it will cause it to shake.

Or could be the tires themselves causing the issue. You say the tread is 60% and 30% left. Why the uneven tire wear? Alignment issues? Or just never rotated them?

What weighted bead bags are you referring to?
    Did they put enough in?

I have experience using EQUAL tire balancing compound on my old Jeep & 35's. That stuff worked awesome even at 70mph. BUT - the shop had to put the right amount in or it won't work properly.

I would try another shop for a second oppinion.

Any reputable tire shop you ask will tell you that tire vibration is the most severe between 55 and 60 MPS. This is considered (if I remember correctly) a third-order vibration, and will build up the most at those speeds. I would look at taking it to a different tire shop. Find one that performs a "Road Force" measurement that is a better, and more accurate method of testing balance. A Road Force balancer will also be able to tell you if there are any issues with rims, or tire matching. I have taken a 33 inch that caused a pretty significant vibration at 55, and after a Road Force test was able to reposition the tire on the rim and have the vibration nearly disappear completely.

BamaToy - are we getting a glimpse of the right nipple there, or just a little bra action? Hard to tell and it makes a difference.

It's just a bra showing. The YouTube video is much longer and you can tell better on it.

OP, I recently had a similar issue. I bought some steel pressed rims that weren't completely round. They would shake at 25 slightly, then 40-50 slightly, then a lot after 55mph. After about 5 mos. and 3 different shops and 400$ in balancing bs, I replaced the rims with alloy cast styles. The vibration was still slightly there, but not as bad. It was the tires that were completely worn incorrectly due to the steel rims being out of round.

I was still worried that nothing was fixed because the vibrations were happening around the same mph, but I just drove through the vibrations, which were intermitent at times varrying from severe to minor.

Now after about 600 miles the severe vibration is minimal at best if even at all. There is a drivetrain vibration from my driveshaft, but that is very little and was there on the stock rims.

Bottom line, when dealing with a vibration or unbalance issue, it can ensue a list of issues that when the balance is fixed, could still remain. If you already know your tires are all worn different, that could have a massive impact on how your truck rides considering one's tire size.

To test for drivetrain, find someone's stock tires and drive around with those and see if there is a vibration. If nothing vibrates, then put the stockers on the front and big tires on the back and drive around a little and see if you suddenly feel the vibration. Rotate your big tires around on the back until you find the worse of the 4 tires. Once you do that, you can put them on the truck in order from minimal to severe, driver front, passenger front, drive rear, then passenger rear. you want the worst feeling tire on the back passenger. It sounds though like that won't matter with the level of vibration you are getting. You may have to get new tires if the wear is sufficient enough.

I'm having the same problem with my 02 taco with 144K. The steering wheel and front end will start shake at highway speeds. 60- 70mph. I had the center support mount bearing recently replaced and had all 4 tires on stock 16" rims balanced. Shop advise me on doing an alignment, but I'm not sure an alignment will cure this problem.
