As far as I know, in the region where I live- the Northeast, I have never seen an HOV carpool lane that accepts any vehicles with less than three occupants- no exceptions for EV.

I could be wrong, just haven't seen any.

You'll never see a Cybertruck in my driveway. That thing is hideous. Hope my Tacoma lasts so I dont have to even think about driving something that looks like that in the future.

I never heard him mention payload, only towing capacity. Like every RV salesman does. I could have missed it tho. What did he say the payload was?

Edit: you might be confusing payload with towing capacity?

So you post 2 articles which are "opinion" pieces to back up this statement which you made as proof? Good job, you sure I'm the one who needs help?

I've already read the Wired article and I had a feeling you would post that as your "factual source." :rofl:Did you even bother to read it? The guy uses words like "might, possibly, and exponentially." He has no idea what he's talking about when he says that global mining of lithium has grown exponentially in recent years. Allow me to explain since you're so out of your depth about this topic, don't even know why I'm bothering to waste my own time and brain cells.
In 2017 global mining of lithium was 69,000 metric tons. In 2018 it rose to 85,000 metric tons. It didn't even grow by half. In case you don't know what exponential growth means, you take the number you're starting with: 69,000 multiply it by itself. So: 69,000 * 69,000 = 4,761,000,000. That's exponential growth. Guy is sensationalizing numbers and inflating them to make his article sound more serious.

Same exact thing with the other article as well. Opinion piece based on a few events and numbers. People in the comments are already taking it apart so I wont waste the time here.

According to the 2nd article you posted it's still cleaner than normal gas vehicles. She throws figures that manufacturing a battery powered vehicle results in 15% greater emissions than it does in manufacturing a gas vehicle. But over the life of the 2 vehicles the gas powered one ends up emitting 51% more. So the article you posted to back up your claims is actually disproving them. Good job on that one. Not that I believe that article anyways.

You made an off topic statement which was garbage and obviously still is, backed up by nothing other than 2 opinion articles that don't even come close to backing up that statement. I agree, it is off topic but most importantly you're not properly informed to even begin discussing it.

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy&urile=wcm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/vr/decal , also looks like the list includes California, Colorado, Florida, Maryland and British Columbia. https://www.chargepoint.com/blog/quick-guide-ev-hov-lane-access-and-toll-reductions/ But if we were talking 1% (eg, doctors/lawyers/etc) and not .001%ers, spending money for quality of life improvements is a given, and a EV for the HOV sticker is definitely an improvement.

    Me?

I like the off-grid apocalypse run scenario, heh. Or daily while the lights are still running. Plus, gotta hedge against carbon taxes (like how running Bio in the TDI does)

Fuck emissions, I’m stating the fact that going to battery powered cars isn’t saving the planet nor is it “green.” Lithium extraction pollution is horrible and then when the batteries die they are a major issue to dispose of too. Smh. You saying I’m “ out of my depth” and other such bla bla bla comes across as typical liberal horseshit. Stay on topic if you want to sound so intelligent on a truck forum. I love internet geniuses and I also type good old regular bullshit street talk on forums and social media. Just keep it simple , that’s what I’m doing. Lol. You can research all week and type with whatever wording you want to, but you can’t deny my facts.............# 1 Lithium mining and using batteries to replace fossil fuels isn’t the answer. #2 Lithium batteries are not clean energy sources............... Care to continue about going to all electric vehicles? Our power grid is currently falling into disrepair and doesn’t even keep up with our current energy demands. Our entire power grid would collapse long before everyone could plug into a charging station.

I was thinking the same thing about the opinion pieces. There were a lot of "could, should, may's" in there. Plus quite a few numbers thrown in with no sources.

I think the point was missed that no one was arguing that batteries are perfect or a completly green solution, but they are better, and that is a step in the right direction.

Don't care about 'green'. But PV+wind+microhydro seems a great way to avoid future fuel price spikes, as long as you have a vehicle to run it on.

In AZ it's a thing at least.

Arizona's Energy Efficient Plate Program allows eligible plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) unrestricted access to the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes in Arizona.

At this point my biggest issue with EVs has been charging. If you plug in a Telsa in a standard 5-15 receptacle you get 2 miles per hour of charging. You have to install an upgraded 240V charger at your house and provide it as much amperage as possible. Even if you supply it with 80A you’ll only get about 30 miler per hour of charging. Until the charging technology improves most people can’t justify the purchase.

Ok, that is just not true.
    1. Miles/Kilowatt hour is dependent on the vehicles efficiency. Model 3 is about 4 miles/kWh
    2. kWh=(WxA)/1000

    120v @ 20A /1000 = 2.4. About 10 miles per hour charge.

240v @ 80A /1000 = 19.2 about 76 miles per hour charge. More than enough to fully charge even the largest batteries overnight.

Plug it in when you get home and forget about it.

Commercial chargers are starting to push into the 100kW range and above.

    Also, cyber truck doesn't need:

-Skid plates (it's like a giant RC car) so TRD skids and C4-fab can piss right off

-Lockers front and rear (Tesla traction [model-X proven] or motor per wheel for tri motor?)

    -Diff re-gears or T-case doubler

-Redesign engine to deliver oil on steep inclines so our Tacoma doesn't stall, or lock up when on a hill.

-TRD Pro snorkel (no worry about pulling water or dust into engine).

seems kind of cool to not need that stuff, and oil changes ("muhhhh 10k swap really toyota??, metal shaving blah blah"), and eTune, and Transmission problems, and gasoline (mpg complaint thread eliminated). Also operation at altitude is fine, or the moon.

    anyways:deadhorse:

    edit:
I mean the more ya think about it in terms of the good ol' Pros and Cons list...all the "Pros" seem really crazy sweet while the "Cons" seem either paranoid / illogical or not that big of a deal. In fact take any TacomaWorld post, and see if a cyber truck would even have the same issue possible

Broken spindles? Need more lift to clear tires? I could go on lol

In all seriousness, yeah it definitely would be cool to have an EV offroader, but for me, I'd want to be able to have a backup in case something went wrong out in the wild. Like my batteries overheating or something or it's so cold out I lost half of my range overnight.

True. I’m not going to trade the taco in ever , but having the ev is going to blow minds for sure.

Also regarding gas/electricity availability in a zombie apocalypses scenario, won’t gas be a horrible idea ? Uhh gas stations are going to run out of that shit within days. Also I don’t know about you guys but making your own gas “off grid “ seems way harder vs having solar panels on ur house or even replicating any 7th grade sci experiment and producing electricity from a junk yard alternator and wind mill lol .... uhhhh yea gas will suck big time when ww3 breaks out and Iran is just like yupppp gas is now 12$ a gallon cuz oil tankers many not pass go . Think about y’all. Mad max .... gas sucks dude

I wonder how many hours to full charge with a bicycle powered alternator.....
