He never did reply to me, I think I'll hold off on updating mine. What I would really like is an update to fix the backup camera issue. I have to disconnect my battery so often I bought a spare 13mm ratcheting wrench to keep in the truck

Sergey says DO NOT install that update, it's for a different screen type and could give a black screen. Take that how you will, but he's going to be merging it with his very soon and fixing

Very good I ran it all day today on a road trip and everything seems good. The screen seems much more responsive to touch than the first one.

My replacement unit was picked up on Dec 11th and it was delivered to me on Dec 15th. Tracking can all of a sudden show up as the morning of delivery mine showed it had just cleared customs in LA then a bing bing bing texts came in and it was out for delivery. It did take though 4-5 days before it actually shipped out from China.

@arcenik I installed the can update and it did fix the reverse temp controls issue, thanks.

On Saturday morning my screen did not come on at all and I had to hit the reset button to get it to work, on Sunday morning the screen went weird during start up ie: looked like a broken display for 10 seconds then started up. Should I install the other update that you posted ? I'm seeing other posts stating not to do that one ?

I installed the latest update. I also get the weird broken screen on startup sometimes. It’s been an off and on issue since almost day 1 but it works everytime after boot up.

All I can add to this is that Sergey told me, after I installed it and it wiped out his firmware, was its made for a different screen not ours. I was lucky enough to be able to reinstall his firmware. He said he would let me know if there were any updates that applied to my unit directly and send them to me.

This radio looks awesome, but seems like it’s still a work in progress. So far how impressed are you with it? I been looking for a new radio. Just seems like this needs a lot of extra attention.

Ok so thats a great question. For me personally this is my 4th android based head unit. They have all had their issues in one area or another, many having the same type of problems. You won’t be connecting several things at once with this unit but with past experience with other head units they all are pretty much the same. You just need to figure out whats most important to you at the time and run that. For my truck, 2013 with JBL, its been so much better than any other head unit I have tried and thats more about the look and fitment of the unit in the dash. After Sergeys firmware update I feel I have a head unit now that will do what I want it to. I think Aucar still needs to work on the software they are putting out as they do have many different types of cars they offer head units for. I think they are trying to adapt the same software to several types of screens, with software updates that don’t particularly go together. That being said I still feel this a fantastic update to the 2nd Gen Tacoma and as I said previously this is after 3 other android units. After receiving my replacement unit I went out for a days long trip, using multiple apps and programs all day long with no issues at all.

Thanks for the great feedback! This firmware updates? Does it void any warranties? It sounds like this is needed almost right away? It it a easy install? Are they still honoring that coupon posted in this post? I agree 100% about the look and fitment, brings the truck into another bracket.

It doesn’t void any warranty and all you need to do is be able to read and follow directions. Sergey has some great Utube videos that take you step by step for the install. Is it an additional cost, sure but for me well worth it. The updates aren't needed right away they really unlock features that should have been that way to begin with.

I've read through all 25 pages of the thread so apologies if I missed.....got my unit ordered and should be here after xmas. I've contacted Sergey (or some admin) via the Facebook group. Apparently there's not much to do with the software as far as prep goes until I get the unit and can take a screen shot of the software/firmware screen. My question to the group is has anyone connected the sub out or the rear RCA's out to an amp? I have the JBL system and looking to add a mono amp w/ 10 to give me a bit more bottom end. Mids and highs are fine but the single JBL 8 has never been quiet enough for me. Trying to plan on which to use? Which may be better from a sound perspective. The unit comes out of the box with a built in EQ and did read this unit has much better sound quality than the stock unit....especially one 16 years old. LOL

I would, its from the manufacturer so there should be no worries.

I pretty sure this wiped his firmware because it is a full update thats why it is 1.1g vs his update that is alot smaller. I know sergey knows his stuff but you should alway trust the manufacturer they will know the model of the screen installed.

I agree I have used multiple android units in my truck and this one seems to run the best. I actually have 2 tundra units (broken from pheonixautomotive) and a secaine unit sitting in my garage and this is better than those.

I dont have a JBL model but I do have mine hooked up to a jl jx500 pushing a 10" jl sub, a kicker key 4 channel pushing JL C2's and the system sound great.

Sergey did say he's going to break the update down and integrate it into his as an update later, he also said based on the log info I sent him that the manufacturer did change out my screen to a different one but never updated the info screen to show that, fortunately he had a fix for that too. I too have a Seicane unit sitting here that was basically junk, never did what it was supposed to do. Just curious if you had this wipe out his firmware too and had to reinstall?

I do not have his firmware on the one I use in my truck. I do have it on the test unit. I like the added features, mostly the themes.

I am going to run the stock firmware for now so I can help anyone with issues.

If he could make carplay full screen it I would use it in a heartbeat. Thats the one thing I would like from his firmware.
