I see you’re using the factory USB/AUX. How did you get this to work? Do you plug the factory
USB/AUX Cable into the provided USB adapter and then plug that into one of the USB ports on the provided USB extender cable?

I ask because the USB adapter cable provided by AuCar does not fit/connect with the factory USB/AUX cable in my 2012 TRD Off-Road. I purchased another USB adapter cable from Best Buy that was supposed to work, but I’m running into the same issue of an inability to connect.

Edit: These are the two USB Adapters I have.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Verizon? Check your plan... they have recently added some hotspot capability to at least some of the Unlimited plans.

Cool, glad you were able to fix it.
Mine was the same, just one side of the connector removed.

I'm thinking about trying to get my hands on the new head unit just to see how it compares to the old one. I recently picked up my 2nd gen off of @scootter82, and I love it so far, minus the old outdated unit inside. I was talking to him about picking up his old HU for the truck, but I am trying to get in contact with AUCar to see if they can hook me up with any deals or testing. :fingerscrossed:

Sorry I have not been as active lately.

I just wanted to let everyone know I have one of the new units in the mail. It should be here next week sometime. I'll make a video of the unit, menu, and settings when I get it.

I made some videos of the new unit, wire harness and UI. My internet is down right now but I have an appointment tomorrow to get it fixed. If all goes well I will have the videos uploaded tomorrow.

Overall the new UI is allot simpler to use and gets ride of the top bar which makes the screen look bigger. The response is quicker and the screen itself is nicer.

I recorded the videos in 4k so hopefully they show the quality good.

@arcenik Do you know what CPU that newer version is running? Also looks like the Sergey firmware is only available on the older CPU, does this new version include all of the fixes from that firmware set, or do you think it won't be necessary for the additional firmware

The new version is a Qualcomm snapdragon 8 core.

it has some of the features from Sergey’s firmware but not all (he had a lot of additional stuff). This software does not use zlink it has a new program not sure who makes it.

GPS adapter for new 2022 model.

I added this to the first page also.

I also wanted to make a correction to the video. The AC button does work to turn off the compressor. It just does not work in low(as someone pointed out in the YouTube comments). As long as you are one temp setting above low you can turn off the compressor using the AC button.

Thanks for that interesting tutorial. I will say that I expected more than that. After having a good working unit, after my screen failure, I actually like the first unit better. Once I got done playing around with the sergey update I realized, other than having some extra features, it really didn’t have anything good for my needs, so basically I threw a hundred bucks away on that. Anyway I did end up removing his update and have been extremely happy with the way the unit functions. I am almost always using carplay so all the fancy screens and such don’t make much difference if you can’t see them. At the end of the day, at least for me, you can still only do so much at once, and after watching that loading and reloading of carplay every time you turn your lights on and off, that would be a bit annoying. Personally all I do see is some easier setting screens to navigate through and nicer screen layouts but nothing I would spend more money on. Thanks again though for sharing it definitely helps me realize what I have is working just fine for me.

I was very happy with the old model as well. I did not have any issues.

I think the main features of this new unit is
The upgraded processor. 8core Qualcomm Snap Dragon
    4g built-in, I don't use this but I know a lot of people do.
Getting rid of the top bar, this is great and I think a lot of people requested this. It gives more realestate for CarPlay and other apps.
Not using Zlink, this uses a new app. Which so far, seems more stable.

The reloading of Carplay is easily fixed by not using the auto feature to change the theme from Day to night and just using the dimming feature.

It might not be worth it to upgrade but I think it's has good added features for new buyers.

I completely agree…..there will be the ones that jump right on this new unit for the new look and all it offers. After watching your great videos it did seem to me that they just moved things around a bit to make them easier to find which was an issue for some. It looked more like they gave it the look and functionality of a phone more than really adding anything good. Most of what you showed is still all of what I currently have, again just looks newer and in a different location. Thanks again for your taking time to get and review this new unit for all of us to see. These are the reasons I enjoy TacomaWorld so much are the ones like you and many others with the knowledge to help a great deal of us.

I wouldn't discount the processor being used in the new unit. The older unit will not be able to upgrade to the later versions of Android OS that it runs on. Older version uses Android 9. New Version uses 10/11. Some other Car Android OS units are on 12. Currently Android itself is on 13.

This also means that the older version will not have the newer security patches...
