And I wasnt overall very impressed. The interior felt rather cheap. The engine had good power range and was impressed how low you could keep rpms in 6th on the highway. Handing was good. Braking was fine, didnt really do much of that. Still not a fan of the rear drums. Didnt care for the plastic bed but I guess it saves weight and wont rust. My biggest complaint would me the shifter, even on a flat road the thing vibrated and shook all over the place, ive seen diesel delivery trucks have less shakey sticks. Is that just a Tacoma thing or something? I I think the hood is also larger than it needs to be, maybe it was due to the scoop though. Im going to test drive a frontier and see the difference. Wish they wouldn't call it a trd sport, there wasnt much very sporty about the truck.

Oh neat, another test drive thread. I heard there is like one guy out there that actually bought one finally. Soon, all these types of threads will be useless:

    - test drive thoughts
    - ordered my new taco
    - delivery date of my new taco
    - just got my new taco
    - hey look at my new taco

lol i love the haters of the drum brakes.

The rear drums will lock up far quicker than the front disks on these trucks in every situation. I often find myself in 4 hi off road (even if its not needed) just to link the front and rear axles together so i dont lock up the rear tires before the front.

The meh brake feel you felt is due to the standard vacuum assisted setup which has a seperate abs unit (read longer brake lines and more stuff for brake fluid to go through).... go drive a TRD OR 4x4 with its MUCH better electric boosted master cylinder with built in abs and id bet you would like the pedal feel MUCH better. (FYI the TRD OR 4x4's can make about 2x the brake line pressure as any other model)

Where is this 6mt that you test drove? If anyone finds one in the southeast let me know... Every dealership I have talked to said they have no intentions of getting a manual on the lot and if I want one I'll have to order it... I want to test drive one

Dealers get what they get from the factory, whom chooses what they want to send to the dealers. That's what the sales mgr told me when I was picking up my truck. I asked him specifically why he doesn't get a few more of the Sport TRD manual trannys. He told me they have no choice, they get what they get!!

I have. It was dark and scary. But I don't really consider it assholing, more like sarcasticing and sense of humoring.

Hey Dbag does the "D" stand for "Douche"?? See how sarcasm/humor can get old fast??

Toyota made a bunch of the Grey metalic TRD sport with manual and sent them to a lot of dealers. Then they changed colors and ran a bunch more....

The Tacoma 6 speed tested that had vibration in the stick may just be that truck or one of the few. I have no vibration in my stick other than a tiny bit which is normal in any manual trans. Others that I've talked to have no issues with the manual either. Was thinking about a short shift kit though. As for being a "Sport", you must not have really put it through it's paces or you'd know why it's a "Sport TRD". It corners pretty flat around curves for a pickup.

I stuck my phone on video and recorded my 2015 so I can compare it to the new 17, the 15 vibrates very slightly side to side maybe 1/4" or so. Also did it in the Mustang and it vibrates up and down about a 1/4" or so but has zero side to side movement.

You're dealer seems misinformed, they get allocated a said amount so he is correct there, but they can pick and choose those allocations configs from what I've been told and seen.

The New Car Manager was trying to explain some of the Allocation process to me yesterday. He said a guy ordered a TRD Pro at another Dealer that ended up going out of business and they delivered the Pro to the guy that ordered it so it showed Zero days in Inventory and Toyota sent them another Pro and they were never supposed to get one.

Stick is tied to the trans, trans is tied to the engine, whole thing is mounted to flexible mounts. Its supposed to move with the drivetrain. That's how they work. Other than the stick being much longer, mine doesn't move much more than my WRX did.

What specifically didn't you like about the drum brakes, other than seeing they are drums? They even work great with the ABS and VSC functions of the truck.

The hood thing bothered me too. But there is a forum post on the classifieds here where people will give you no less than $250-500 and their flat hood in trade. That's what I did, and both parties got what they wanted.

If you think the 6th gear RPMS are low, you should try an Auto! They run like 500 RPMs less at highway speeds. I wish 5th and 6th were a bit higher.

As long as he didn't steal mine, I don't care what truck he drove. I'm very happy with mine.

Yup it's still in the driveway

Thanks for the offer but I already bought one last september! I never did get to test drive a 6mt prior to my order coming in. Drove it around the block and then signed the papers. Got 7200 miles on it now and couldnt be happier.
