well from what i am hearing from the news,
dakota, ranger, colorado, canyon, and frontier are no longer being produced. this is to include the suzuki and Mitsubishi trucks that are a rebadge joke.
the frontier is on the block and the new titan was supposed to be made off the ram platform and that didnt come to fact.

my bet is in the next 3 years the taco will be the only midsized truck out there.

One of the many reasons to choose the taco. I love being able to have like ten cup holders that all tell you to have sealed bottles in them, as if that wasnt obvious.

I used to own a Chevy Impala. Before I got my Tacoma, I had narrowed my choices to the Frontier and Tacoma. I had a need for a back seat, but the Frontier's backseat is a joke. No way I was going to sit my wife and baby in the back for long trips. Wife actually took a quick peek and we left without a test drive. that was the extent of our Frontier comparison shopping. I did like the exterior design, but the interior fit and finish looked very poor. If I was looking at a full-size truck, the Titan did look kind of cool. Having purchased my Tacoma, I couldn't be happier with my decision.

friends folks have an 05 .... engine was replaced under warranty, and the new one is already making some funny noise ... its a 2wd dbl cab auto 5cyl with 60k on it

they are the best bang for your buck IMO, i had a 99 mazda b2500 before i got my toyota, and it was developing some problems i didnt want to deal with so i sold it while i could, but they definitley arent bad, if i didnt need more capacity i might have fixed the clutch, steering, and bought new tires.

... main thing to watch out for is if you get the 4.0 with a manual they burn up slave cylinders all day long. Also i flattended leafs a few times before i finally got some low mile ones out of an 08 4.0 4x4 and those were great for the rest of the time i had the truck.

Toyotas have crazy resale .... thats why i got the 4cyl mazda the first time around .... for the money i wanted to spend it was my xcab truck with 90k on it, or a taco with close to 200k ... hell i ended up dropping 5k on my t100, but dont regret it yet, great fuel economy so far and i feel it will hold up better than chevys i was considering

as for titans i saw mentioned earlier ... great trucks but they KILL gas with that 5.6 ... friend has a 2wd one and rarely tops 15

The Frontier IS a downgrade. There IS a reason it is priced way less than the Tacoma.

I "practiced" the 'dealership game' at Nissan before heading to the Toyota dealership and buying my Taco.

I never seriously considered the Frontier, but after comparing the two, I knew I was making the right decision in buying the Tacoma.

I think the Frontier Crew Cab short box is a smaller box than the Tacoma Double Cab Short Box? Barley 5ft compared to the Tacoma 5 1/2 ft bed?

Good point! The Frontier's sorry gas mileage would have been a big factor if the back seat was not already a deal-killer. Titan's MPG was listed as much worse on the sticker, as you pointed out.

The 2.5L is a POS, had it in my Sentra... Google Pre-cat failure or butterfly screw digestion issues on the 2.5L.

I had Nissan for 5years, The transmission was crap, the 6speed started grinding 3rd after 25k miles  I would never buy Nissan again!

Do you have a link about Frontier beeing discontinued? I know about Dakota,Ranger,Colorado/Canyon being discontinued but I thought Nissan was going to keep Frontier as a competition to Tacoma.

Only complaint i have with my Taco is the back seat isnt quite big enough. My 2 yr old in his car seat kicks the back seat everytime he gets in there and the passenger has to sit fairly close to the dash to give him enough room for his legs in the back.

Im looking at the new F150 as an upgrade, but i cant see trading an 08 taco with 40k on it for a 45,000$ truck.

The Colorado/Canyons first came out with a 2.8L I-4 and 3.5L I-5 engine options which were derivatives of the I-6 4.2L found in the trailblazer/envoys. They later bumped them up to 2.9L and 3.7L respectively. and even later introduced a V-8 5.3L. Never had a V-6 in those.

Some of you guys seem way too sensitive about the tiniest things...just sayin

if you want tight responsive steering, buy a car.

does the rpm hang really bother you that much? I don't even notice it anymore.

IMO the tacoma is far superior overall than any other midsized truck on the market. sure some might excel in some categories over other the tacoma. the tacoma is just a better built vehicle overall. not to mention the resale value is excellent.

I had a dakota, it was a great truck. No issues until I hit a 130k. Then the bottom fell out. Oil leak developed and the steering rack started to leak. I went Toyota for quality. The 4.7 V-8 only got like 10 MPG, but I had it modded pretty good. I would go full size before I bought another V8 mid size.

Frontier's look like shit, have small beds, no ground clearence, aftermarket can't compaire to the Taco, and a ugly interior. I test drove the Ranger, Colorado, Dakota, Fontier, and Taco and the Tacoma was best over all IMO. I used to be a domestic lover redneck, till i drove the Tacoma and i wasn't so closed minded aganist foreign trucks like a lot of Country people out here...
