Had to drive the counterpart's Grand Cherokee with the 8spd AT this weekend to Vermont. The thing is fast as hell, but then I hit almost 2k in rev trying to go up a slight grass hill without moving... Slushboxes

    Amahright???

@Braves95 , on 33s? How do you like the 4.88s?

    I know, right??!!

Sometimes I think she does this as as a sort of twisted social experiment, wherein the unsuspecting slobs on here are nothing more than lab rats!

    :)

    Entertaining, nonetheless

Us Tacoma owners don’t have high enough IQ to conduct experiments....

I felt the same way. I have a 2018 Off Road MT and felt like I was in high school again. 2nd gear is an issue but now with 2,700 miles on it I am used to it. I do agree that the truck performs much better at higher RPMs. I was under reving it for the couple of weeks but now no problem. I traded in mu 2015 Mustang Ecoboost (310hp) for this truck and kept trying to drive it like a Mustang. It's NOT a Mustang :) but so much more! So if you are on the fence about the MT, just rev it!

just rev it, exactly. make use of the high spinning motor, make use of the heavy-enough flywheel, make use of the rev hang. run it up to 5k in 1st and let it out into second and your inertia will carry into 2nd and give you much more power... enough to accelerate the truck when OFF the throttle, just from the 1st gear spin. the gearing makes smooth street driving a challenge, but that's what gets a driving enthusiast engaged.

Love the positive posts. I love this truck yet all I see is all these people bitching about everything. I feel like saying if you don’t like it go buy something else. It’s nice to see the positive thank you.

Went in expecting to get an auto because of the lack of Mts available. Searched over 400 Tacomas on 6 lots before I found my unicorn. Literally discovered it by accident on the way to the dealer. The truck didn't pop up on their inventory search, and I only found it because I resorted by price and found an OR priced cheaper than the rest. Couldn't be happier that it all came together that way.

I'll admit, my first impressions weren't great. I was coming from a 2015 Civic Si with a shifter that made this truck feel like a tractor from the 60's. But, once I was used to shifting the truck, I was amazed at how similar operating it actually is compared with the Civic. Keep the revs up and it just wants to go go. Super fun to drive.

that is awesome to hear, when things work out like that.

it took me 6 months to get mine... and yeah it's the unicorn. the first 3rd gen MT Pro delivered in Texas. it was worth the wait, but in the beginning i totally agree with you about the farm truck drive... i was coming from a highly modded R32. i spent 6 months or so modding it for the right driving dynamics and got it totally dialed in for my usage.

i may also recommend both the OV Tune for the 2GR-FKS and the URD short shift kit to bring a little more driving fun. the list for improvements is endless so watch your wallet!
