Pricing on all new trucks is insane. A base model F150 is 28 grand. I invested in some Ford stock and it shows: they are quite profitable, and we all know that trucks are some of the highest profit margin vehicles made.

I don't consider a HD the same as a full size half ton. To me it's like comparing f150 to tacoma.

Inflation. The fed is printing 85 BILLION dollars a month out of thin air. The sticker price for a 1980 Chevy C10 was $5400. That price doubled by 1990, and doubled again by 2000. It should come as no surprise that by 2010 we are buying $40,000 pickups. By 2020 they will be $80,000. It's just monopoly money man.

I was wondering the same thing considering it is voted truck of the year 2 years in a row. Something no other truck in history has done. I'm a little surprised somebody in the market for a full size would pass up the opportunity to at least test drive one. I've read mostly good things about the ram and the new 8 speed trans. Only time will tell though. I'm not a fan of Nissan but I would like to see the new Titan with the Cummins in it

I think a lot of it is leftover inventory type of thing, but I also think one of the factors is that the mainstream models like the XLT, Lariat, and FX4 sell so well at the premium models end up discounted more. I haven't haggled seriously yet, but in all my discussions with dealers it hasn't been hard at all to get them 8-10k off sticker on the premium models since they need them gone.

I'm a little confused by what you mean (honestly, not trying to be a dick). I bought my Tacoma the same way...saw it on cars.com, agreed to a lower price than even advertised, and had a sales contract written up. I then drove with the cashiers check made out so they either sold it for what we agreed on, or they didn't sell it. I assumed these would be the same?

    Just starting...
The Toyota dealership where I got mine has switched over to "no haggle" pricing on used vehicles. I had already decided that my next vehicle would be "certified" which narrowed the window to vehicles offered by dealers.

The price they were offering it for was in line with other used Tacoma 4x4s.

Where they do negotiate is trade-in value. What they offered for my 1st gen was way below what I needed. While I didn't sell it for the price I wanted to, I was able to sell it privately and be better off than what the dealer was offering. Overall, satisfied with the private sale process.

Not many trucks in 2wd will be any good at reversing up a steep slippery hill with an empty bed, even with great tires. No weight at all on the drive wheels.

And I'm another one that thinks the GMC is better looking :D

Towing capacity and lack of torque. My duramax has 450hp and over 900 ft lbs of torque. If you have to do real work the tundy just doesn't cut it. I really wanted to buy one. I test drove a couple and tried hard to justify it, but in the end I needed a heavy duty truck, and there is no way the tundy can reasonably be modded to do that work. I have heard rumors Cummins is in talks with Toyota about a tundy motor...that might change things...

because the Tundra doesn't have the towing capacity and torque of a 3/4 ton diesel truck it is a poser?

Hey man, I love Toyota products, but I personally see no use for the tundy. If Toyota would build a serious full size truck I will buy one. Yes, that means it needs the diesel option. Even a smaller diesel on the current 1/2 ton chassis would make me consider it. I think they should make tacoma's smaller, lighter, and with turbocharged inline 4 cyl motors and upscale the tundy and put a real motor in it.

fair enough, but it doesn't make the Tundra a poser IMO, no more than gas powered 1500 series GM pickup or F150 or Ram 1500.

    correct?

comparing the Tundra to a truck out of its class doesn't make it less of a truck.

I'm not a big fan of half ton anything. I drive a chevy 1500 as a work truck, and that motor is screamin' all day long. The trans hunts for gears, it can't tow shit, and gets WORSE mileage than my Dmax. What is the point of that? It's cheaper? I get the tacoma/ranger/S10 sized pickups...better mileage, enough load capacity to load up the camping gear, maybe a four wheeler, etc. Just don't see the need for 1/2 ton full size rigs in 2013. In 1960...ok...but there wasn't a lot of options back then.

My comment was not about the truck. I would not own one either. The workers just put together what the Co. designs.

He's comment "we know were are coming back out of the woods with the Toyotas"
