well coming from my 6 speed double cab i test drove an automatic v6 access cab tx pro. my initial thought was where are the balls? it felt a little more sluggish than my truck. anyone else here driven both trucks and have an opinion?

came from a 5 speed 4cyl reg cab to a v6 auto and think my current TRD OR Dcab would smoke that reg cab. barely touch the gas and she spins/squeels the tires. im not sure what it is, i had a 2011 sr5 Dcab v6 auto and it didnt have nearly as much sack or sound as good as mine does. i think it depends on the truck too...

well IMO, a manual is going to feel a bit faster than an automatic since you can keep it in a low gear, slam the gas and it will get up and go right away. but with an auto, when you floor it, it has to downshift first so it feels like its more sluggish

also what tires do you have on your taco?

    I recently traded in a 2005 SR5 DC 4.0L V6 auto for a 2012 TRD Sport 4.0L V6 manual.

For me, beside the obvious differences you'd expect between a manual and auto transmissions, I feel like both trucks have pretty equal performance. Definitely wouldn't classify the auto as "sluggish". In fact, I'd say from a cold start the old 2005 with the auto trans had more "jump" off the line, but once I get to 3rd gear the manual transmission definitely feels more responsive when I hit the gas. Again though, the differences to me seem pretty negligible...I was very happy with the auto transmission while I had it.

There should be a noticeable difference from a 2wd from a 4x4. Weight for one.

From what I have read in road tests, the Auto is about .3 seconds quicker than the manual.
