I'm still waiting but I don't think a kill switch will be in the cards for me I have looked at the MoniMoto 7 gps tracker. It only needs to use bluetooth at set up so it seems less detectable than air tags once hidden.

Never saw the point, really. The last car that got stolen out of our neighborhood was done with a tow bar. Neighbor's car got hauled away in under 30 seconds, so the thieves could mess with it at a more comfortable location. If you want to stop theft by wireless repeater/cloning, its easier to turn your fob off at night.

IMO you have a higher chance of your added switch and wiring failing leaving you stranded than you do of stopping a thief.

I do have a GPS tracker in the truck however I've heard that the theives have been getting smarter with disabling them. Perhaps I need a more hidden unit as sugested.

I'm kinda lost on this one... I never leave my keys in or near my truck when I park it, and I've been hearing they can just clone a new one using the OBD port. And in regards to the tow bar I guess I'd be SOL

Defiently not the intended result. Is this from personal experience? My old man used to run a kill switch on his old 40 and didn't have any interference problems however you'd have more to worry about than the kill switch when trying to get it running XD.

Would you reccomend going with a switch or trying to hide more in plain view, ie a switch pro pannel and labeling it as a light or something.

Good question, I think either would serve the desired purpose, do whatever leaves you with the most peace of mind. I’m going to install one soon enough, not sure what method I’m going with yet. I’m leaning on hiding it.

Not personal experience but take a look at the number of threads on here of my trucks doing x after I did some electrical mod vs the number of trucks stolen.

They can clone your key even if you have it in your house. You would need to turn off your fob or place in in a signal blocker box to keep it from being cloned.

It's two wires and a switch. It's not going to "leave you stranded".

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Agreed if you do it right. Set one up to cut the EFI circuit and it's just like pulling the fuse, then follow through with good wire terminations, insulation and protection from corrosion/moisture and you've got no problems. The biggest problem I've seen with electrical is poor attention to detail - "Why do I have an intermittent contact issue? I twisted the wires together AND used electrical tape?"

I’d worry about, tailgate, catalytic or other parts if you live where a locked truck could be stolen. If that’s the case move…. Good luck

Yeah we had some guys here driving a uhaul, and they were stealing catalytic converters all the way down the east coast from NY to FL. They hit the uhaul lot down the road for good measure.

Of course they have not been caught. Three guys in a uhaul of which they know the description, and plate number of the uhaul, heading south on one of the the only two highways heading south on the east coast of FL.

Guess it's too hard to figure out.

Have you seen some of the hackery people do? I agree for most people it probably won't be an issue to wire up. But most people won't get their truck stolen in the first place.

Per this article the most stolen cars in the US (Tacomas not even on the list) average 3.69 cars stolen per 1000 (.369%). If you had 1000 people on here do this "mod" you think less than 4 would fuck it up?

This is the circuit in used on my 88 Pickup (pre taco by years). You ask why? Well I had an 86, moved to Knoxville for grad school ignoring my dad's advice to install a switch and within two months it was gone. Step forward a year I have an 88 with a kill switch, and low and behold I am walking home one night from friends and wouldn't you know it, there is a kid sitting in the cab of my truck, but he could not start it. Those old trucks did not have chip keys and he already jacked my ignition pounding a screw driver in, but all it would do was crank and never fire, as I disabled the EFI?. Two years later, now living near ASU in Tempe, Az, and same damn thing happens again. Kill switch saved it both times. Also says something about the kind of housing and neighborhood I could afford during school. Mine was the extracab and the switch was actually behind the drivers seat where I had a little hole in the carpet and the switch was in part of the jump seat mount box. Really easy to just reach a hand back there and flip it. I came off the back of the fuse box in the cab. So unless you start dissembling things you would never see those wires. I also just taped them into the harness. If you put it on the proper side of the fuse, that fuse also protects your switch if you have a short. You want a fuse to blow somewhere not fry a whole system. That all being said, I had my Gen 1 for 9 years, and am on year five of my gen 3 and have not messed with a kill switch since.

I want to say my catalytic is currently covered with a 3/16th steel plate. I do worry about the tailgate ect but would care less if my truck is still there.

If it was just me doing it then I'd be slightly worried about it going sideways however I'm not trying to do an ultra complicated system and I have help from a friend who has been working on toyotas for around 40 ish years.
