I'm not sure what is going on; but I have posted outside of the Texas area a couple times in the last two days and I haven't received one dirty look from the local gang of thugs - I mean Mods. Maybe I'm off their shit list!

Ads pitch kindlier gentler side of Marine Corps

WTF is this crap!?!? What happened to not promising a rose garden? The only easy day was yesterday? Pain is weakness leaving the body? Traveling to exotic places, meeting new people, and then killing them!?!?!

A "kinder gentler" Marine Corps sounds like an Army recruiting poster; not something that belongs on a Marine Recruiter's wall. WTF!?!?!?!

How are the other countries supposed to know to fear Marines if they don't know we will eat them!???!

Damn liberal ass pussy generation coming up.... trying to recruit these pansies. The Corps should just shut their doors for four years and institute a friggin stop loss; recall some of the recent guys and go kick some ass somewhere else until the next generation of non-**** is old enough to step on the yellow foot prints. FUCK.

Like all this bullshit on tv about stopping bullies!?!? In my day you grew a set of fucking balls and punched the SOB. THAT was how we stopped bullys.

It's a poster! Pull in more people to weed out the ones that couldn't make it, it makes for getting the ones who should couldn't sack up to begin with and makes men out of them. Did I serve? Nope, I'm one of the ones who couldn't sack up, but my brother and everyone I would do anything for has so
I hold the armed forces in a very high regard, but you can't get worked up over a poster.

Basically, this is how it works: Up and coming generation is a bunch of pussies, the marines haven't changed any (as hard core as I have known them), get the pussies to join up and the ones who feel connected to the marines will join up, it's basic human Psyche and sense of belonging. Marines are about pride and they really only bring in some of the best.

p.s. I feel like an ass replying to this as I'm about to goto bed. Right or wrong I support the marines 100% and I feel it's just marketing

 I hate my generation sometimes... Another problem with the bullying crap is that we are punished for fighting back while so many bullies are able to get away with it. Some of the biggest bullies at my middle school were best friends with the principals and were able to get away with a day of detention while the kids that fought back were given worse punishments.
On a separate derpy note entirely at my high school this past month they suspended a kid for having a pocket knife and brass knuckles in the glove bod of his truck. Not on him, but in his truck. They have been cracking down on every single rule possible and have put duct tape on the floor of a hallway to mark "walking lanes" they have kicked kids out of school for facial hair and given out detention for forgetting to wear Id badges. I hate society :frusty:

That is the thing though; as a Marine we pride ourselves in being the Few. It is better to not make numbers than to lower standards. If the kid needs a softer pitch line to get him to sack up then I'm going to have a hard time believing he will make it through. My platoon in Basic Training started with a little over 100 guys and only ~80 Marines graduated. That is roughly 1 in 5 that didnt' make it and that is perfectly acceptable as long as the standards are kept.

This reminds me of the Army focusing all their ads in the late 90s on getting your college paid for. Then once those college kids had to go to war they freaked the hell out - they didn't sign up for that! I got to see a reservist crack in Baghdad like that. He fell to the floor and screamed he didn't sign up for this. Our Staff Sgt picked him up and chewed his ass from one end to the other and back across. When we start loosing focus on the main objective at hand our purpose and resolve becomes diluted.

I've been told many of these stories and in a fire fight, this doesn't help and puts everyone at risk. I will say though, while my brother wasn't deployed his duties left him pretty complacent at his job (goofing off all the time, getting into trouble a lot, not really being a marine) . It wasn't until bullets were flying at him that he sacked up. I would speculate more active training and simulations should be done to ready our armed forces for combat. No, it's not the real thing, but would help weed out the sissies or so and make our troops "safer" in combat having people they can trust along side them.

p.s. ok, to bed for real this time.

Sad to see it come to this. We had more than a couple fights in high school that usually resulted in a couple days suspension and that was it.

We had a lot of good guys that screwed off when we could; but when game time came around it was a serious gig. As for the training; it is about what it can be without risking more people getting hurt.

As for bed time; I agree... I'm going to finish some homework and do the same.

Whatever we put into the something is what we get out of it. If we put something weak or unfit in, our results 99% of the time will be the same. I know I am not fit for the marines. The reason I am not gonna put the marines on my selective service card is that if I was drafted into the Corp, I know I would not be cut out for it. However slim the chances are that I am drafted, I know there is still that small percentage that I am. I just can't justify signing and making a commitment to something that I couldn't fulfill.

I searched and search for something with fishing nets and "like a boss" but all I found were a few nude photos one of a boy's nuts inflicted with elephantiasis. Needless to say, I'm done.. it's just not worth it anymore.
