Is this the right shit for my transmission? I need just over 3 quarts of this?

It's like 3.2 in the pan but 11.5 for a full flush.

What really blows my mind is that there is 4 times as much fluid in the lines and other places than in the damn transmission itself. How the fuck is that possible? And for that matter, how does the fluid circulate? Is there a transmission fluid pump?

ah yes, 11 sounds more correct

I think I heard somewhere that our system has a pump that is driven while in gear. Which is why people always say don't put this truck in neutral while driving b/c the pump stops if the gears aren't engaged.

A lot of the fluid is in the torque converter and lines. That is why a flush requires so much trans fluid to clean out the system. The lines, converter, and trans cooler, and pan all add up.

But if the gears aren't engaged and turning then why does it need to move the fluid?
(I don't throw it in neutral either just fyi)
Does the fluid actually enter the TQ converter? I always thought those were sealed systems.

Dealer wants $250 for the flush and $205 for the belt replacement. Fuck that. I'm going to bite the bullet and buy the belt tensioner tool so I can get this done on my own. I'm sure I'll need it again.

Looking at the DIY it shouldn't be hard to change the fluid and do a total flush. I know what I'll be doing Saturday. Josh, you want to come over and knock yours out too?

I don't know all the ins and outs and parts in the tranny, but if you're moving then I'm sure the drive shaft is still turning something in the transmission. :notsure:
I probably won't be doing mine just yet, but I can come supervise and take notes. :) It also depends when. I'm busy til 3pm Saturday.

Truth. Not sure if the gears disengage or if it's just the TQ converter.
I'm going to give it a go. Adam is pressing me to get OEM Toyota Fluid. I'll probably do it. At an extra $2.5 a quart it's certainly not cheap but God forbid anything happens they can't point the finger at me and say the fluid wasn't proper.

Landed a new job today! Well almost, still need to go take a physical and drug test on Monday. Did a road test this afternoon and was introduced to my future trainer. I'm going to be hauling gasoline to stores. I'll have a steady schedule and making more money then I'm making right now!

    Yeah local 100%.

Plus the terminal is about a ten minute drive from my house thru farm roads with zero traffic!

I'm going to try and tackle it in the morning. If all goes well I'm hoping to get it done and over with early so I don't waste the day. If things don't go as planned I might need a hand as my sanity past 3pm will be lacking. I'll shoot you a PM and let you know what's up.
