When doing the rear of my first gen, does it matter which shock goes on which side? And boots up or down?

shouldn't matter which side the shocks go on... I don't have a 1gen, but couple pics I've seen show the boot down towards the ground.

I think how you mount the shock is all preference. Boot up, boot down, no boot.

Completed my 883 and 5100 instillation today! Had a shop do the front, and I tackled the rear myself. Used Toytec's 1"-2" adjustable shackles set at highest setting paired with 5100 shocks. (Sorry, no pics of this). I am yet to install my diff drop and that will most likely have to wait until next weekend. I am very pleased with how everything turned out. Looks to have gained 2"-2.5" up front with measurements of 38" driver side from ground to fender and 38.5" on the passenger side. I did not get the trim packer thing because nobody will notice the difference except for me and maybe some people on this site. The ride is much better than stock! And a special thanks out to everyone who helped me by answering all my questions!

The front end complete, before swapping rear.

    Everything finished.

Factory ride height shocks usually matter, there is generall a left and a right with two different part numbers. One is longer than the other. But in your case if there the same length and longer than stock then it shouldnt matter.

I like the 4.6 but would have got the 5.7 if I pulled as much as him. Plus having a smaller motor in a larger vehicle does not always mean better MPG.
