    Question for the welders...

What can I use to cover up a cracked weld on an aluminum tank?
Some guys put JBweld and paint over it...suggestions?

That's a gasoline tanker trailer. That bracket cracks every 3 months and I have to take it to fix...last time they took 2 weeks to fix it. I need something to just cover it up for a few weeks.

I'm new to the tanker business....according to most driver this is normal since its a 1981 and is used day and night non stop. All the tight turns and inclines at the convenience stores twist the crap out of the tank. This crack on this picture was just fixed. The shop that fixed it only warrants for 3 months. Next time it cracks we are sending it up to our corporate headquarters and get it re built. These hair line cracks cost me points on my license. I just need to temporary fix so I won't get nailed again. One of my co-workers got a violation while doing a Diesel load before he dropped off the trailer at the welding shop. We load a full load of diesel to clean the trailer of gasoline fumes. That's the only way the welding shop will work on them.

They need to stop using a spool gun and fix it right with a TIG welder and a beefier bracket

    Lmao.

Did you know it takes roughly 5 levels of concrete beams and light fixtures in parking garage it takes to bust off that plastic covering at the top of a 4ft antenna?

    :D

    Well,

I have my antenna mounted to the bed rails behind the cab on a powder coated metal tie-down thingamabob. When I went to go get my CB tuned by a radio shop, they told me that I don't have a good enough ground :(

I went ahead and bought a SWR meter so I could see what I could do to fix it.

So I was thinking about running a ground wire down to either my frame or down the front of the bed and attaching it to one of the bolts that holds the bed together.

Will this work? Or will I have to come up with another mounting spot?

    Nope.

They told me that there was no way to ground it from where it was at.

Which meant me buying one of their hood mounts or buying a brand new magnetic antenna. :p

Oh, and did I mention that they decided to grind down the powder coat on one of my bed tie-downs without telling me to see if that would work? :frusty:
