I know you know it isnt, but the state doesnt and that is what makes it difficult to get a new title. Like i said, call and talk to them and see what they say.

Don't bother with the tax office. You need to call the TPWD office. They handle boats. There is one on 121 in Haltom City. They are helpful and filling out the paper work for a lost title was not bad when I did it. They showed it was registered to me and just showed ID.

 

Instead of you jumping through all these hoops to buy it, how about you make the seller do it? It becomes a massively worse deal if you buy a boat you can't use or a trailer you can't legally put a plate on.

 

Probably the best advice out there right now. It will be easier for everyone if the seller gets the title and then you buy a boat with a title.

 

Or don't buy a boat. Seems like a lot of trouble.

 

Much better advice, if you want the boat owning experience just walk to the end of the dock and throw a hundred bucks in the water every weekend.

Smart move. After having 2 boats I am looking to pick up a yak to get back on the water. My first boat was a money pit. The stereo typical crap that everyone talks about. Rebuilt trolling motor, oil, bad battery, replaced on board charger twice, 2 new depth finders and 1 died after a week, new seats after a while, replaced fire extinguisher, new trailer lights, new wheel bearing on 1 side, new trailer tire, replaced starter, and then had to do some hull work due to a bad design. Finally sold it right before the lower unit went out. For as much as I used it and the amount of money I paid I could have hired a guide once a month for the 2 years of owner ship and saved money.

 

My father in law, who has owned about a dozen boats over the last 14 years, says the two best days of a boat owner are the day you bring it home, and the day you send it away.

 

Never owned one, but I like being on one.

 

That's why you rent them, or get friends who are dumb enough to own one

 

I love drinking on a boat. Somehow it's better.

 

I just got TX license plates and I'm wondering if anyone has ever had any issues with not running the front plate just having it in the cab? I don't feel like trying to find a good mounting spot on the plate bumper.

 

It depends on the cop's mood. Some people get by without having it on the bumper, others get cited for it.

 

Having it in the cab won't stop them from pulling you over for not having it on the front. Been there done that.

 

I have never been bothered for not having it, but I have known people to get pulled before.

 

Haven't run a front plate in 13 years. Legally you don't have to unless your car/truck has a factory mount for it. And I wish I remembered to tell the dealer not to drill the front bumper.

 

Where can I find that law so I can quote it if I ever get pulled over?

 

I just did a quick google search and it appears you have to have a front plate displayed.

I keep mine underneath my rear floor mat.
