Yea, I love old history movies, stuff is just so interesting. Ever listen to "Hardcore history"? It's a podcast made by a guy named Dan Carlin, he goes into detail about old events and looks at them from different perspectives. Extremely fascinating series, it's free too! Look it up!

I've come to the conclusion after much research, due to my OCD brain, that no one in fact makes my perfect bed rack. That is, I want my cake and eat it to. The closest I've found is the or the BAMF Expo Bars, however neither are the height I want, and lack some other features from other racks that I've seen (kbvoodoo, CBI, etc). The first issue is the height, I'd like to get the top at around 16", just at the top of the rear window height, for visibility and more headroom if I ever need to turn the bed into a literal bed to sleep in. Second, which has ruled out setups such as kbvoodoo and others, is that I really like the look of the round bar cross bars and that I only need/want a single side panel mounting platform. Ideally I'd like to be able to have some access to items in the bed from the side on at least one side of the truck, another reason for the higher cross bars where I can mount the hi-lift up high enough to reach in. Still haven't come up with my end-goal for gas/water containers. Rotopax are cool, but also expensive and I've heard some mixed things. Where as a couple of jerry cans strapped to the front bed rail would provide 5 gallons of each though access wouldn't be quite as convenient. And finally, with my Rago Fab front corner brackets in place, I only have ~41" of open rail length to work with so most of the full length racks are out unless I change my cb antenna mount and light pod mounting and remove the corner brackets.

... the things that make my head spin on the first day of the year.

Oh, I'm aware of that @hoarder23, already talking to Rago fab about a custom version of their setup. Unfortuntely while it is the closest to what I want out of the gate, it's also the most expensive in just 'stock' form of just about any of the 'bed bar' setups out there.

... oh and to make my search even more difficult, I want it small/light and able to be disassembled and stored easily as I also have to be able to put my bikes in the back which won't work with the rack in place. It's almost like I need 2 Tacomas, one for adventure/OR and maybe a pre-runner sport for around town/daily...

That would solve a few things, including my new years resolution to lose weight, I wouldn't be able to afford anything but rice for a few months.

Rice would be about the worst thing you could eat for weight loss. Beans might be a better choice.

Got to be better than Chuy's, Egg Nog (with Rum), Pumpkin bread, pizza, etc - that I have been eating for the last month... or 3.
