Texas BS Thread

I'm almost afraid to google it, but I probably will.

I stick with bottled water pretty much everywhere. Greenville, MS got me going in that direction. When the tap water looks like diluted tea, no thanks.

Today I had to drive to Abilene to pick up some low tox antifreeze to use for our temperature probes. Seven hour round trip for a bottle of freaking antifreeze. Most places I go, they either have it on hand or offer to order a bottle for me. Odessa and Meridian, MS are the only cities I've been to where I was given a "Nope. We don't sell it and won't order it." Thanks for the outstanding customer service, assholes.

 

Well out there, the tap water is more dangerous than antifreeze so they arent worried about low tox

 

Amazon Prime? Lol. Don't you like how far away stuff is in TX? Orange to El Paso is 856 miles. Road trips with my kids: "Are we still in Texas?"

 

That was my first thought. Not available through Amazon.

Yeah, I actually flew into El Paso since Delta doesn't fly into Odessa and I've got Gold status with them. I'm flying into Albuquerque when I go to Amarillo for the same reason. People get kind of floored with how big Florida is too. "Oh you must love going to the keys." No, I don't. From Cocoa to Key West is a 7 hour drive. To put it in perspective, When I picked up my rear bumper from SOS Concepts in Laurens, SC, it took less than 8 hours to get home, including stops for gas and bathroom breaks. That being said, Texas is freaking huge.

Travis is pretty much full, so folks are moving north and east.

Where are you going to be working? With three bridge rebuilds and some other road work going on, traffic is a cast-iron nightmare.

My wife is a Road Cyclist, and from what she has told me if they rode on sidewalks, when they come up to a residential entry/exit, it could have blind spots due to architecture or shrubbery that would block the view of the auto driver who wouldnt see the cyclist and as the cyclist rode through they could be struck.

 

When you’re on the street, you have some visibility. When you’re on the sidewalk, motorists will not see you and will turn right/left and run you over.

Also, TX law says bikers should be on street. Bikers are not protected in crosswalks unless they dismount. In several TX cities, biking on sidewalks is actually illegal.

 

Makes sense. But then it would be on the cyclist to protect themselves from unaware drivers.

I myself have fallen victim to a Chevy Tahoe while a fence had blocked the drivers view from seeing me approach.

Either way, I'm not riding in the road unless there is a dedicated bike lane.

Nobody in my area pays attention and I'd rather get hit by a slow moving vehicle than one doing 45 and late to yoga messaging on FB.
