    Can the negative wire and chassis ground wire be run together to the battery? Im making my diesel transfer tank (with electric pump) mobile and want to run alligator clamps to the battery so i can use the power (battery) from whatever equipment im filling up. It has 3 wires: positive, negative, and chassis ground. Should be able to just run the negative and ground wire together on one clamp, right?

    Reason for 2 grounds is the one for the battery ensures that the max amount of voltage and amperage can be supplied without interruption. Chassis ground is to dissipate static electricity to mitigate explosion.

    Since the tank and pump will just be mounted to a pallet and therefore mobile (via forklift), will i need to put a clamp on each wire or where do i need to run the ground wire? Can the ground and negative be run together to one clamp? Or will it work just using the pos and neg wires and not using the ground at all?

    You have three wires.

    Positive will of course got to battery positive.

    Negative of course will go to battery negative.

    Chassis ground stays seperate from negative and runs to a metal spot on the chassis to dissipate static electricity.

    You can't run the neg and chassis if they are already seperate.

    I ended up running them together to one clamp that connects to the neg terminal. It worked, but is that a bad idea?

    Well the black wire turned out to be negative and the white positive. To my surprise the little pump WILL run in reverse and i nearly blew the cap off of cause it was pumping air into the tank. :rofl:

    Fyi, 12vdc, black is always ground/negative. Toyota is white wire with black stripe.
