Going to +1 on the Rem 870. I have an 870 Express Magnum that I have owned for the last 12 years. I have used it for many duck and dove seasons, and busted a lot of clays with it. One of the few guns I know will work till the end of time.

What about the Remington 887? The guy im buying from says the 870s retail for 400 and i dont want to spend that much, but he says he has an 887 for 275 brand new in the box. Whats the story on the 887? Good shotgun?

I am not familiar with the 887 but I would for sure go with the 870. I have one that is 14 years ols. It probably has 10,000 rounds or more through it. Routine cleaning and it still shoots like the day I got it.
I would not hesitate to buy a used 870 in good condition. Mine seems to be bullet proof. Also it has taken dove, quail, duck, goose, sand hill crane, turkey and 2 pigs. In your search if you come accross a smoking deal on a youth 870 20ga let me know so i can get it for my 3 month old son. I need to start him off early.
