I cant find a dealship(houston) that will inspect my truck frame. I have read(on this forum) that the time has expired, but I still see other people getting it done(in other states). I never recieved a notice for this from toyota(or for the ball joints) and I am the first owner of my truck!!!
Any thoughts of what I should do?
Frame has just a bit of surface rust but my leafs are more rusty.

If you just have some surface rust I think that is normal. If you found a spot that actually worn thru the frame I'd be very concerned. I've looked at mine and didn't see anything unusual, no different than my 04 GMC Z71. I did wire brush some areas and sprayed undercoating on it.

    Too many to list.
If you have the 2004 Tacoma, then you are definitely within the "Frame Replacement" period because I just had mine done today.

Discussion Thread Response (Sandra B)03/06/2012 09:46 AMDear Mr. ****,

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry.

Please know that not all 2004 Tacoma vehicles are included in the Frame Rust perforation Warranty Enhancement or SSC (Special Service Campaign) 50J Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint.

Our recalls and programs are specific to the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of each vehicle. A search of your VIN 5TEW****44Z***** does not indicate your Tacoma is involved in either of these programs. We are sorry that we are not in a position to extend the programs to include your vehicle.

If you feel you have a concern with the ball joints or frame of your Tacoma we recommend contacting ** (281) 890-8700, the Customer Relations Manager at Joe Myers Toyota for specific information. The Customer Relations Manager is our liaison between our Toyota Customer Experience Department and the dealership. The job of the Customer Relations Manager is to address all product, sales and service issues that may arise and to attempt to resolve them in a mutually beneficial way for the parties involved.

If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us. www.toyota.com/help/contactus.html

    Sincerely,

    Sandra

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
It's because you're not in the "rust belt"

I've contacted my dealership about a frame inspection as well. They play dumb and say they have to charge me to inspect it. They act like they have not heard of the rusted frame issues up here, or the frame replacements. This is an issue for me, because the previous owner of my truck lived in a remote coastal village for 6 years with the truck, so I know it was subjected to saltwater/beach sand. As far as I've read online, I got the impression that all 01-04s should be eligible for one free frame inspection per year...

Texas trucks are not included in the Frame Inspection program, and only certain states meet this requirement.

My 99 Tacoma spent all but last 4 years in Kansas city area. Tejas Toyota in Humble, TX has done the inspection once per year since I have been down here. It took them a while to understand it, and I had to bring in my paperwork that Toyota sent me. If the dealership you are going to is playing dumb, find another one. Or take your letter from Toyota.

There are links either here or on TTORA that has the toyota tech sheet explaining how to to the inspection, and the decision tree for determining replacement.

The expiration is 15 years from date put into service. 1998's will be first to expire in late 2012 and early 2013. Again, depending on date of service.
