Yep I broke 2 eyes on a $650 rod the summer before when my brother chucked the cooler in the back....... Cost me $150 to get some cheap re-fix but it isnt bad. Gotta keep the tuna weight on that rod low now :(

I did not think rods could be that expensive. Did a simple Google search.

Oh yeah, even freshwater rods can be $400-500, no reel.

    G. Loomis brand comes to mind.

I determined early on that I was far too careless to buy one of those.

The steps look sharp, Keith. How many coats are you putting on them?

Are the step traction areas removable? They would look really good if they were painted white to match your truck.

Thanks Zech. I did two coats of primer and two of semigloss black. The step areas are welded on. I considered masking them off but am too lazy.

Yeah, unfortunately thats just the rod..... Its custom outfitters. the reels and braided line is what kills you. Most expensive hobby you'll ever get in to. Rod, reel, line..... ridiculously priced set ups and you need AT LEAST 2 trollin off the back and if your prepared for the tuna to hop you need AT LEAST 2 surf casters off the front ready for them to come up roilen... Snap line on the initial hit cause theres about 30 tuna under the pot hoppen out of the water so thats either a $18-$26 hydro--popper gone or a $120-350 daisy chain or spread bar gone. It will blow your mind. + gas..... Doing work on my truck is so much cheaper :D

Take some pics of where they are welded on... I bet with some work I could make them removable.

There would have to be bolts sticking out the front of them and I wouldn't want that.

The bolts wouldn't have to stick out the front of them. The bolt points could be setup inside the space between the step and pipe at both ends. Weld the mount point to the pipe and recess the mount point on the step portion. Tapping the inner mount would remove the problem of needing a nut and a small hex bolt would be easy to mount it with.

Just throwing it out there. I think it would look really sharp and set your truck apart from all the other white trucks.

I know I asked you about how to painted your wheels way back. I almost finished and was wondering if you sanded at the end with like a 1,000 grit or not?
