Hey everyone, I just got myself a 2018 Tacoma off road. While looking over it I noticed it has what looks like a textured paint that runs on the bottom 8-10 inches of the body and bed. Is that normal?

Quick, return the truck. You got a lemon with bad paint.

It is to protect the paint from rock chips.

    Normal.
I thought it was a defect to but supposedly it's some sort of rocker guard type of paint. Just to protect better from stone chips actually getting to the steel and rusting

Most manufacturers have been doing this since the late 1970's. Rock chip protection.

Ahhhh yes, so the inferno orange uses the same texture as an orange for a realistic appearance. No other truck has this. LUCKY!.......I kid, i kid :D

I was literally talking about this yesterday. When my dad bought a new tundra back in 2001 he freaked out on them because he got bad paint.

My taco and his new tundra both have it. to prevent chips in the paint from rocks.

I miss my 2001 Tundra SR5! That thing was a beast! And yes, it had the orange peel rock guard protection as well.

If your on a trail and crash, you can peel it back and scrape it off and eat it like an orange. It’s tasty!

    J/k!

This is not the case, This texture is intentional. you can see a clean line where is smooths to the rest of the panel.
