Nobody here would just throw their hands up, "I guess it's broke!" and take it to the dealer. It's a new truck that broke offroad, you put it on some rollers and figure out where the break is. The only difference between us and these guys is that they have a youtube channel to share the results.

There's zero chance that a Toyota dealer has the parts to fix this issue for such a new truck. Which means that the roughly video a week that TFL would make with this truck is done as soon as they hand it back to the dealer. Best-case, they take it in and get a replacement (as they did with their first 2 LR Defenders) and the truck gets sent back to corporate to get torn down.

Early '07 FJ Cruisers are well known to have weak rear differentials, this caused Toyota to upgrade the differential. If what we're looking at is a design flaw rather than a bad batch of parts, then the earlier and more publicly this happens the better.

Im suprised how many people are coming up with excuses for it. That trail was not hard at all and people saying its the stock tires fault. This should not have happened with stock tires for such a simple off road video

I don't have rollers. I have a truck under warranty. Of course, I would take it to the dealer and tell him to fix it. If it was out of warranty, I would look into it more. And I wouldn't take videos of any of it.

Do you have jackstands? Put the truck up, put it in drive and see what spins.

Obviously it's going back to the dealer to fix, but if I broke this thing offroad I'm going to know where it's working and where it's not before I give the dealer a chance to tell me that I broke it.

Not my problem. It is barely two weeks old. I am not getting paid.

1,083 posts on TacomaWorld, you sure you won't work for free? :p

Non-snarky edit: also, it IS your problem if you take it to them without knowing where it's broke and they tell you that it's your fault. How many of us who don't have youtube channels / video proof would get told by the dealer that this was abuse, and now it's $2K to fix?

I am retired with plenty of spare time in between travel seasons. I purchased a new vehicle. I paid for Toyota to do the work. We are both in this cesspool together.

Very cool. I have a JKU Rubicon running 35X12.5 tires for Utah desert fun.

I’m saying they could’ve done something to the truck before they filmed that specific scene. Press vehicles, test vehicles are typically abused, and they had a history of abusing that vehicle.

I’d I lock my wheels against a curb with the four-wheel-drive on and then floor it and break the CV axle, is it Toyota’s fault?

Why would they do that? They bought the truck themselves.

Because it’s fun to watch people drive trucks in extreme ways for YouTube clicks.

What's the next excuse? "It could have been space aliens zapping it because they don't like blue". Occam's Razor. It's a bad part. Plain and simple.

Do you think they intentionally broke a $50K truck to make $1000 off of YouTube views?

I think they drove it far more aggressively than your average end user would , and anyone who has driven off-road and has broken CV axles and wheel bearings and suspension components would want to know what happened leading up to this incident.

I broke a suspension arm on my track car a few years back, and I didn’t blame it on Porsche.

I don’t think thats true at all. Toyota drives their trucks much harder than TFL did in all of their commercials.

You mean slipping tires on an icy rock is hard on your drivetrain?
