Man, I'm going to miss you BlueT. Even after you get your new Nissan or Chevy, you should still hang out here and bash Tacoma every chance you get. Otherwise, this place would get boring. Plus you're like the only guy around here that knows how to science.

YAY! And I un-ignored you a couple days ago because I was missing out on 50% of the conversations around here about how shitty Tacoma's are.

WTF. First thing the guy says in this video is that he just drove a 2004. Why is he comparing it to a 2004?!

And why are people so freakin retarded?!?!

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Even if its a PITA frame repair. I can repair a shitty frame after a dozen beers.

I can't fix GM because history. Besides its likely to catch on fire on me, or leave me stranded.

If you really can fix that frame, you can become millionaire soon. 2009+ trucks will most likely not see their frame replaced ever... So there is huge business opportunity for somebody who can fix those frames.

It is only KIND of bigger. Just more junk on the enormous grill. The actual frame has the exact same dimensions. Same with the cab. Seat belt bracket Mike failed to mention that.

he later says he owns a Tacoma, so presumably that's the 2004 he was referring to.

New torque and MPG numbers are great for resale value on my 2013. With a loss of 1 ft lb and no MPG gain my current truck should do better when I sell. For this reason I like these numbers because this could be my last Tacoma.

Sure I could/it can be done. The problem is its a liability thing. The same reason people are blaming Toyota 10 years after the bought it when its rusted.. and back tracking saying I washed it every day and night and took premium care of it.. oh but I didn't know it was getting bad until some inspection found it.

People are usually too lazy to actually look, or do maintenance.

Don't get me wrong, the corrosion protection on the Tacoma frames was definitely sub standard. And that is why I have to keep an eye on mine.

But in our current society working on other people's stuff is asking for trouble. Sure I could, or many shops I am sure could repair them.. but the liability is too high. I am not going to assume the risk for someone else. At least not commercially .

I am glad that they kept decent ground clearance though and didn't make the front end low like a Chevy Equinox

You are not going to fix that frame, nobody can, because how its designed and build. I asked guys who weld, and Eng for a living. They deemed there is no way to fix this frame and have any strength afterwards.
Frames started failing way before 10 years. I think first trucks were MA, ME and RI trucks with as little as 6 years on the clock.

I think with all the money Toyota has spent on the frame issue, they would have kept that in mind with the new frame. Also, I live in Wyoming, frame rust is rarely a problem out here.

I would like to agree with that. I'm sure it was something that was considered a decent amount.

Not much different then the previous generation variant of each truck. Then, the real world performance characteristics of each was determined by the buying public to favor the Toyota. For example ....most torque and hp ..sure, at 500 higher rpm when the Colorado motor is screaming like crazy. The overall HP and Torque curves have been lower in the past in comparable motors.

Here in Me, Toyota trucks out number Colorados by so much, frame issues will always be a bigger problem. BlueT is right. The rust begins around the welds and there is little that can be done unless you do it after market . We who live in Maine NEVER have issues with frame rust if you spray oil on it every year or two ( biodegradable) or paint wheelbearing grease on it every so often. It's easy, cheap and doesn't taken anymore time then an oil change and lube job.

With the shit GM reliability and even shittier recall policy, Toyota has nothing to worry about if the new tacoma is as reliable as the 2nd gen.

Notice !! For all you guys who love your manuals, the autos are superior mileage wise. Also, acceleration numbers I predict will be better in real world practice as it shifts more frequently then mist manual drivers ever care to.
