Thank you very much! Now I need to find out if the Limited will be available with the long bed in Canada. In Canada Gen 2, double cab, 4x4 with automatic gets you a long bed, regardless of which trim you choose.

You can't expect a new engine and then knock it for not having proven reliability.

I trust Toyota engines more than any other brand (Honda is great too) and trust the 3.5 will do its job well.

I also think until you see a 0-60 from both the Tacoma and Twins you can't downplay the horsepower number.

The twins are already showing dismal fuel economy numbers on fuelly, and while the new Tacoma's numbers aren't good on paper, they still haven't done any real world testing.

GM is not doing exactly what most consumers want.

GM - plush on road truck aimed at older people who want a truck that acts like a car

Toyota - very capable off road vehicle for those with an active lifestyle. Toyota has finally made it a lot more comfortable to use on road which was its biggest criticism.

Mike Sweers said it best, that his truck is aimed at a reasonably well of younger male that has an outdoor lifestyle.

I bet 80% of users on this forum are males between 20-55 years old.

I bet the twins are purchased by males and females 40+years old.

    It will be.

The current Limited is long bed only. I highly doubt this will change.

not to mention that autos are far superior in mud, sand, snow and towing.

I hope so, because the PDF that lists all the trims, only lists the Limited (short), no mention of long.

And the main reason a manual is not offered with the off road package with crawl control.

My two cents: Super capable off road, quieter and more refined on road, (slightly) better gas mileage, and minus the chrome grill a damn good looking truck. When I move back to California next year, I see a TRDOR DCLB 4x4 in my future. It will be perfect for my Baja adventures, and anywhere else I choose to go. Would I trade in a 2012+ Tacoma to get one? Probably not, but I don't understand why people would trade in a 3 year old car/truck anyway. Overall, I think Toyota did a good job of continuing the evolution of a great truck.

Toyota has said many times, this truck is not intended to be used as a regular tow vehicle.

You do get that something can be biodegradable and still be poisonous. Like dirt, salt water in large quantities, an infinite numbr of organisms. The fertilizer you put in your garden is toxic for human consumption. Please check what biodegradability means. If you just don't want to put rust resistant materials on your truck. I get it. Btw, linseed oil works well and is biodegradable.

True, but it should tow my 3500 lb trailer (see my profile pic) several times a year and not be a total bitch doing it.

Yes, and Japan took abandoned ww2 jeeps and now the J in FJ stands for jeep.

    True story.

The good news is that the 2016 looks less ridiculous now that I am used to it. I think I could eventually get over my styling beef.

I can't comment on the mud and sand cause I don't have enough first hand experience but the autos are certainly not better in snow and towing. Having a clutch makes it easier to rock the truck back and forth in snow, manuals don't need additional oil coolers for towing and can also tow in overdrive. I just wish Toyota would make 6th gear in the manual a deeper overdrive like the autos, to increase highway mileage.

Old Toyota's, Power Wagon, and a Tacoma
Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
The Japanese did it right. They took a good American concept, when we were leading the charge on the sorts of things.. and they copied what they needed and improved what they could.

The thing that made those toyotas legendary was the Japanese work ethic of the day. Can't remember what it was called..

The r series and the f series both have roots with chevy. But the manufacturing was better by the Japanese.

I have driven numerous 4x4s both auto and manual in mud, sand, and snow. An auto is superior in all 3 because you can rock it. In deep mud you better be in the right gear when you hit because as soon as you push the clutch in to shift you are toast. I have had to rock a truck out of both snow and mud and would have never done it in a manual. In the old days MTs were stronger and therefore better for towing but not the case now. I had a 4 speed with granny low on my 1981 F150 and that thing was a beast but they are not built like that now. Even the autos do not compare to the C6s of yesteryear.
