    10/31-11/04/25

Im hovering right around 60k miles. It was time for service. Flushed the fluids, diffs, oil, coolant, trans, greased the control arms, swapped filters, and changed the plugs. Even got after it with the angle grinder and cleaned up my inner fenders and cut back a bit more plastic. Everything looked great other than my rear gear oil. Checkout that shit milk below . Glad I changed it when I did! Brake and power steering fluid still looked great so I held off on those. Short of a full detail this thing is dialed in and ready for another 60k. Frankly, it’s been an expensive week but this truck (other than mods) has cost me (us) nothing. It owes me nothing and it’s still worth almost every dollar I paid for it 5 years and 60k miles ago. $2300 in maintenance and tires is really chump change.

No gears. Factory gears. My last gear oil change was at 30k. Front gear oil looked mint. Water must have gotten in somehow. Maybe through the breather? My breather has been relocated to behind my tail light. Both the drain and fill were tight and torqued to spec.

Breather is a good guess. No leaking from around the housing seals or anything? I had thought you got gears when you got lockers, but that makes sense. Any debris on drain plug or just this weird color?

Just the weird color. Nothing out of the ordinary, externally, that I noticed. It looks like water got in somehow. I have a factory E-locker. Which I used 2 weeks ago, so all seems good. There was a little more sludge on the magnet than I was expecting-the gears are all broken in so I was expecting it to be pretty clean.

I’m gonna check the breather tonight. But most likely ignore it. I would see fluid coming out if an axel seal or a fill/drain seal was bad. I changed the breather about a year and half ago. I should probably make sure it’s all good.

I'd throw some pipe tape on the threads to breather nipple coming out of the housing

Alrighty folks. Going big. Stick with the Toyos or go with the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT? Thoughts? Opinions? I’m teetering

Hmmmm. Are we talking about the same size regardless and we’re just deciding on which tire?

Essentially. Mickeys will be a 295/70 and the Toyo will be a 305/70. They measure about the same size

I may not be qualified to weigh in since I’ve never run either one. But I would say Mickey’s hands down based on everything I have read and heard.

We’re talking about the Toyo AT3 right?

Yes. The At3. I’m leaning that way. The only thing holding me back is their weight

Yeah that’s legit the only reason I went with these Yokohamas last time instead of the Baja Boss AT’s. They’re soo heavy.

A friend of mine just got rid of an almost brand new set of Toyo AT3s on his 4Runner. He said they were horrible in the rain and vibrated at highway speeds. He swapped them for Nittos and he’s much happier now. I feel like almost every review of the Toyos online says the same thing, at least about wet traction being bad.

I’ve never read a bad thing about the Baja Boss other than someone who got the occasional bad tire that was out of round or whatever. But that’ll happen with any tire.

I’m thinking I might get the Baja Boss for my next set too and just live with the weight. Seems like a fair trade for the top of the line performance.
