Wow! Glad you both are going to hopefully be okay in the end. Truck did it's job. Some complain about all that cheap plastic out front and all the nanny stuff. But at the end of the day the truck did what it's designed and engineered to do. Save lives.

Yes...extreme kinetic energy. Both vehicles seemed to hold up on the safety side regarding passenger's lives. So glad all were relatively okay from the crash. I would have expected a fatality after seeing the pics. Whew... I feel better about driving all the miles I do in my truck.

Better than crumbling like an aluminium can. That truck looks like it's steal.

    Glad everyone is alive.

Is this guy TW's resident piece of shit or something? I missed the memo.

I can only assume he made this statement because he's going to want company.

not exactly the right place for the question, but i'll answer. due to the ever increasing MPG requirements in newer vehicles, oem's started to work to cut frictional losses everywhere they can. these specific toyota's, and many other vehicles of a similar vintage(my 2014 subaru uses the same oil) have gone away from 5-30 in favor of lower friction versions like 0-20, 0-16, or similar weight oils. officially, the owners manual states that 5w-30 can be used in area's that 0-20 isn't available, but recommends changing back to 0-20 as soon as possible. manuals for the same vehicles in other countries with less stringent MPG requirements typically have an altered manual that allows for 5-30.

so your mileage will vary, literally, but to meet the as-stated MPG, 0-20 is the official recommended oil for these trucks.

i can only assume his forum name is a personal joke. even the church of satan has more stringent requirements than his drivel would allow for as a leader. any version of Christianity, a pastor caught spouting off like that would be subject to an official writeup, if not entirely disavowed.

Thanks for sharing OP! Glad you made it !
I had a head on collision in my 2012 Tacoma and didnt look nearly as bad! But got struck by a smaller car (Civic) and was only doinh about 45 mph.

@Tonebender looks like that was a faster road? By the looks I would guess around 60 mph head on!?

That’s the work of a higher power right there. Both of you are important and wasn’t your time. I hope you and the other driver a speedy recovery.

Glad you're okay! Seeing those photos sent chills down my spine. Especially since I just started a thread about old vs. new Tacoma safety.

I won't pass judgment since I know nothing about the crash, but younger drivers are a real threat on the road. You were hit by a 21 year old. I was hit by a 19 year old. The deadly crash I saw the other day was caused by a 25 year old. Our brains aren't fully developed until our mid 20's. Specifically the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for decision making, executive functions and behavior. Add in distraction, lack of experience, etc., and bad things can happen quickly.

Best of luck recovering - physically and emotionally! Hard to forget about something like this.

Incredible that you both survived! The loss of the truck is tragic but it did exactly what it was suppose to do, keep you safe. I really feel that’s the first job of our vehicle, get us where we need to go safely! The enjoyment they bring is second to that. I’m really glad to hear there was no loss of life although the memories will always remain! Good luck on your recovery and search for a worthy replacement!
