Funny thing happened when I had to take my '05 DCLB to get it smogged recently. I learned that despite my belief (and the statements made by the retailer who sold it to me)...my K&N Filter Charger was STILL NOT CARB approved!! So I got to take a crash course in CARB EO number research (scrolling a PDF until my eyes wanted to jump off a cliff)...What I learned, was that only ONE Cold Air Intake is ACTUALLY authorized by CARB for use on the street in a 2005 Tacoma...The TRD Performance Intake...Well, $340 and about 2 hours later, my K&N was in the dumpster and the TRD was under the hood...Here's the irony: On the way to the smog check place I realized something...My truck was quicker, quieter and just "felt" different! Whoda thunk it? CARB made my truck perform better?!?!?!?! Anyway, thought I'd share.

Yeah, I hear ya. Don't get me wrong, I was initially pissed about having to replace my K&N...and it DID have a heat shield...but even when I was installing the new one, I liked that the air was coming from the fender well. Looks way better too.

lol you could have bought a stock intake for $50 and sold your Gay&N for a lot more, and have a performance gain by going back to stock
