Wow! I've never really paid much attention to the sticky threads because the top posts you see on the front page of the 1st gen forum are "Lunchtable/200k mile club/what have you done" threads with more than 1,000 pages. I never really thought much of it.

Today, I was bored and scrolled through and looked at almost all of the posts under there, and was amazed at the various resources and the very neat and organized informational threads. Many of the questions I've seen posted on the normal threads (even some of mines I'll admit) could be easily solved/answered by taking some time to look through the sticky threads.

Just wanted to post an appreciation post to thank all those who have contributed to such a treasure trove of information here! You guys are awesome!1

We're fortunate to have this independent club that functions as a living knowledge base of information about our trucks. I've been a member of clubs where the sticky "how-to-threads" died 10 years ago. Few vetted or verified the information as it was being posted. In many cases, the instructionals were just plain wrong.

We are also fortunate to have @Timmah! with his instructional videos. It is very rare to have that kind of knowledge available to help work through maintenance projects.

At the end of the day, I believe the learning benefits we receive from this community coupled with the quality online instructional videos work to help keep Tacoma resale values high compared to other vehicles that do not have this level of support.

it would be cool if there was a 'sticky thread' regarding the topic facing perhaps 1/3rd of the USAs Tacoma drivers (1/2 of North America when Canada is included!)

the various ways and which are most effective to properly clean and maintain the frames and undercarriages against the ugly salt monster
topics could include the variety of methods and resolutions for each particular situation one might be facing

perhaps @Timmah! would want to do an instructional video to benefit those in the midwest, north to Canada and to the far east shores!
I am sure his location in CA is not afflicted with this issue but there are many TACO survivors out there needing help to keep on surviving in the winter climates we are challenged with

I think most people dealing with road salts and the rust that follows uses a product like Fluid Film to treat their frames before winter hits. I have heard of people just using WD-40 too. I doubt we'd make a video on this. It's too bad communities use road salt to de-ice the roads because it destroys vehicles. And, I doubt this will change anytime soon because alternative means to de-icing the roads are more expensive from what I've read.

i just meant for those buying the used trucks and the best way to clean it up and check for stability
    wirewheel?
    handsand?
    powerwash?
    sandblast?

what types of primer, paint to use, etc.
so many different ways and opinions out there
    very confusing at times!

fluid film does NOT work (i have heard) when you are spraying your truck down during the winters at the spray N wash or touchless wash

by alternative means do you mean the use of chains and studded tires on city pavement?

I guess if we had to deal with rust in our area of California, I'd probably have something to offer but I've never personally had to deal with this and neither has anyone I know. I hadn't heard that about Fluid Film but it's good to know.

No, that's not what I meant. I have heard that some communities use coal cinders while others use a chemical treatment to de-ice the roadways.
