Yah... its kinda a bummer how quickly they seem to have rushed production on the 3rd gen. It feels like an awkwardly assembled jumble of parts pulled off of all the other vehicles in the lineup and is held together with duct tape and hot glue... I want my 2008 back!

I went from a 2001 Tundra to a Dodge Dart then to my Tacoma. I miss my Tundra. With that said...

I love my truck. It might be because it’s a truck and not a car but who cares? It’s a truck! Anywho, there are things I like and don’t like about it. My biggest gripe is the seats. I feel like I’m lounging, not sitting. Second, is the fit and finish. I wash it and the front end area squeaks! I know it’s mostly plastic but damn, it’s a little over the top. Don’t even get me started on the paint cause I’ll eat your soul! And third, the interior is a mashup of plastic and, well, plastic. There’s nothing elegant about it.

But regardless, I bought this truck and I’m good with it. Nothing is perfect and nothing will ever be. I’ll just sit back and enjoy it till it’s paid off and able to give it to my son when he turns 16. Will I buy a Toyota again? We will see what’s out there in the future.

20k miles in and I love how my truck drives. I don’t expect it to be a sports car but it’s drives flawlessly. And I don’t have to worry about turbo issues as soon as my 50k warranty is up:cool:

My neighbors have a '15 F150 2.7 EB, they bought new. Decent truck. It's been to the dealer at least a couple of times. One for an instrument cluster that was flickering and the other for some sort of TPMS issue. There maybe more. But that's what I know of.

What I've noticed though, is if it's been sitting a while, there's a fairly noticeable puff of blue smoke at startup. Blue = oil. Whether that's rings, valve seats or turbos.....hard to say

    You and me both.

Just checked sales of the 3rd gen, and at least 500,000 have been sold- bound to be some bad apples in that barrel.

I think most 3rd gen Tacoma owners don't see a need to check an enthusiasts forum, unless they have a question or concern.

    Hence the skewed reports here.

My truck is a nice solid little truck, and out of all the mid-size options, Tacoma is still the best one, imo.

    Cheers

5 years with the last one. Zero issues til the heater started acting up. Gonna wait a bit to see how the JL does for everyone.

The funny thing is if you go look at a list of TSBs for the second gen, it has quite a few over its run. Rear suspension noises, 4.0 engine ticks, replacement ATF, battery issues, other electrical issues, cowl leak, radiator cap issue, skid plate and cab mount noise, excessive sulfur dioxide smell, no start in freezing temps, bent tailgate, leaf spring noise, steering rattle, differential whine,

And thats just the 2005-6 model year TSBs. People have very short memories.

Things like that don't even make it on my radar.

The whole 1st gen vs. 2nd gen vs. 3rd gen butt-hurt party is really more of a blemish on the TW community, and who really cares?

I have been driving pickup trucks for more than 30 years, and the Tacoma is hands down the best so far- that is really all that matters to me.

As a trade in, not a cash sale?

If a trade, you didn't get near that much, as in you overpaid for the Ford, and they jacked up your 'allowance'.

Nothing against you, it's the way trade in's work. Everyone raves on their deal, which rarely is.

If you'd sold it outright for $3k less than you paid, that would be impressive.

BTW, squeaky springs have several easy DIY fixes.

    Anyway, enjoy the F150!

I plan on keeping my 2nd Gen low end for as long as I can. Unfortuneatley Toyota has joined the rest of the other manufactures in producing vehicles that have sealed trans . cartridge filters lighter and cheaper components , more electronics etc. etc. that cannot be serviced anywhere other than Toyota. I cannot understand why they would make auto trans that you cannot check fluid levels but that seems to be the future. I have the old 5 speed manual with the reliable 2.7 and I will baby this truck and keep forever as there will never be a truck built like this again. I can see now why people want these older Taco's and will pay a premium to get one

All things considered, 95% or more of Taco owners are happy with their truck or absolutely love them. Every vehicle has it's percentage of bad ones as does everything that is manufactured from vehicles, to toasters, to TVs, to stuffed animals, etc. What gives something a bad rap are the few vocal ones that stand out in a crowd and are taken as the gospel and as the perceived standard. I agree that the OP was dealing with a poor dealership who was lazy and essentially blew him off. It's too bad. I wonder if the OP test drove another model on the lot to see if it was doing the same thing? Regardless OP, fair winds and following seas.
