Safelite does recalibration. But yes you are right, if you have an aftermarket window Toyota won’t touch it 98% of the time

Was driving on a highway in Wyoming when a semi passed and 2 small rocks slammed into my lower driver windshield. Not too bad and couldn't get it fixed since I was in the middle of nowhere at the beginning of a 7 day road trip... Let's just say the crack grew into the passenger side.

Super fucking pissed. This is right after I read it's about $1k with TSS to replace OEM. And i just got that fucking thing tinted.

And guess what, no insurance coverage on it. Wish I would have known that when buying the truck.

Labor day weekend I was driving home and ended up with a little chip even though the car in front was pretty far ahead. I was pissed because I just had my windows and windshield tinted.
My ins co recommended safelite so I went with them. I've had this done a few times on company vehicles without any issues at all. The SL tech had to give the disclaimer that it could/might/maybe crack...which I've never seen happen before. The guy was a little sloppy but in the end the fix came out good and is holding fine. Later on I noticed that there are a lot of small divots in the windshield, I thought that the OEM pilkington glass was a bit better quality but I guess not.

There are not any aftermarket windshields for his truck. As of last week, there were over 800 windshields on backorder.

You can get the windshield replaced with OEM glass through your insurance if the vehicle isn’t that old...

Not sure how much I care about having OEM glass. It's not like the OEM I had was anything special, it broke with a pebble hitting me at about 15 MPH.

Upgrading your insurance to have a lower glass deductible would be wise with these trucks. I've gone through a windshield per year and neither time would I have expected them to crack the way they have. The first time it cracked was when I turned on the hot defrost for the first time - never noticed/saw anything strike the windshield. Next time I heard something pop, but didn't see anything and I was driving 35mph when it happened. still cracked several inches and required a replacement. these trucks look like trucks in that they are very boxy which we all love aesthetically... downside is you're driving a fly swatter that won't deflect much

Let us know about how much it costs in the end. Curious since I'll have to replace mine.

I pay $26 a year for full glass coverage. Everyone should have it. Is that what people are paying? That being said, I'll drive with cracks until the windshields basically in two pieces. I hate taking my car to the shop

You might care when your camera keeps malfunctioning in your 40k truck because it can’t read thru the aftermarket glass:notsure:

I just did the windshield in my 18. The glass was $566. The recalibration was $417. Plus whatever the company cost to install it. Got the last piece of OEM glass in Arizona. Toyota was backordered by 800 pieces of glass.

In Texas, they don't care as long as it doesn't interfere with the wiper.

If you really want to see a windshield explode that the ceramic from a spark plug and throw it at the glass... it’s amazing

Over here, the crack can’t be over 8” long. I’ve had about a 20” crack since April 2017, when my truck was 2 weeks old.
When it was time to get it inspected this year, I went to a few different inspection places until one finally “overlooked” it. He also overlooked the illegal window tint. Now I know where I’ll be getting my inspection next year. :D
