Shark Fin Antenna Replacement - Starting from the passenger side, here's how I recall doing it:

(Again, referencing this post, please proceed at your own risk! I had some minor dents in the plastic... I had to drill a hole for the small stubby shark fin pic # 7 & 8, my FM radio/XM replacement antenna details are here and here).

Edit: there is another post here where he drops the headliner...

    • Pull the rubber door trim at the liner and side panels,
    • remove the headrest and fold the back seat down,
    • unbolt the panel behind the seat so that it is loose,
    • using your fingers, a finish tool, or small flathead screwdriver, pry the two side panels loose by popping the tabs from the pillar (pic #1),
    • use a razor blade or finish tool to pop the SRS cover (pic #2),
    • unbolt the SRS #10 bolt (pic #2),
    • pop the covers off the oh-shit-handle with a small flathead screwdriver (pic #3),
    • pry out the tab that holds the clip and remove handle (pic #3),
    • repeat for the coat hooks, remove the covers with a small flathead and release the tab for both clothes hooks (pic #4),
    • observe how the liner is tucked up against the back window,
    • starting at the door, gently pull the back side of the headliner down while trying not to dent the headliner or crease the headliner (there are no hidden screws or tabs to pop out - it just comes down, stop pulling when it gets near the dome light, pic #6),
    • pop the tab on the side pillar at the shark fin electrical connector (pic #5),
    • release electrical connector (pic #5),
    • open back window,
    • unscrew shark fin bolt with an open-end wrench (pic #6 & 7),
    • repeat in opposite direction for re-install.

Hope this helps! Please pm me if you have specific questions as I don't always check threads. Good luck!

Oh shit handles and coats hooks both have caps and clips for the 16+. The newer model coats hooks don't twist out... I tried ;)

    Small update:

We have 3 different samples on their way back to us at the moment. We are still trying our hardest to get to a reasonable price point. We may have to ditch some smal design features to get to where we want to be price point wise. The brass inserts may have to go. We will see.

Also, we are working on a 3rd gen soon.

2nd gens are better, change my mind.

As a potential buyer, I would rather pay a few extra dollars for quality than to have to take this off every year or so to check for rust. This will be exposed to the outdoors 24/7 and even though there is a seal around this, that’s just another part to worry about. Just my 2 cents.

The brass inserts will be sealed from any potential weather issues by the factory rubber weatherstripping. However, the factory sharkfin screws terminate directly into plastic. We were trying to elevate the design and build positive engineering features into the product. We may have to remove the brass inserts due to cost. That would just put us back to exact factory likeness in the respects of the functionality of the fastening screws.

    Update:

Brass inserts have been nixed from Design.

    Found supplier pending sample inspection

Price point would be $45 plus shipping at a minimum of 50 ordered.

Turn around time would be approximately 4-5 weeks.

Order needs to be placed at a minimum of 50 items.

Hopefully there is enough interest to get this done.

Right, I see that we have some verified interest. I’ll edit the first post to reflect all those that are interested.

I figure I should compile a post a put it in the group buy section to see if we can get more traction to reach that 50 item threshold. Maybe I can get time to figure all that out tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed.

As an aside. I am a small business owner with a very full plate at the moment. This is a side project for me. I hope that my timeline hasn’t put people off this far. I’ve tried to be open and transparent with my information. You can always ask me questions and I’ll answer them to the best of my ability.

We are still waiting on the final sample.

I had no idea something I thought was this simple, would be this drawn out and this complex...
