Was looking at some bud built complete skids, and wanted to go aluminum for the weight savings and rust resistance but it’s $997 for a complete set.

I wouldn’t pay for aluminium. The weight savings don’t make that big of a difference in my opinion. My steel skids are awesome :)

I don’t have rocks here and the difference in weight is 63lbs vs $124. Plus not having to powder coat them and then Worrying about rust when the powder coat flakes off from impacts

I should add that that kit is from radiator all the way under to the rear of the transfer case. The normal steel skids are $575

That's alot of money to save 60 lbs. I also highly doubt rust will be an issue

60lbs is quite a bit when you’re armoring a 4cyl lol. And rust is always an issue in FL, it rainy and humid year round, and I live near the beach so that adds salt into the mix.

You’re not going to notice 60lbs when it’s spread out under your rig.

    I would go steel.
Either you want them to use them (in which case steel is better) or you want them just to have them, in which case you’re probably better off without them, that way they’re not collecting sand/dirt and trapping water against your frame/crossmembers and you would need to dump them and wash underneath fairly often to combat rust.

I want them cause nothing cover the trans or t-case, and what covers the engine/radiator isn’t even 1/8”. 1/4” aluminum is stout but saves weight, and I don’t see rocks here in FL.

I don't notice 200 lbs in my car with a passenger and we make about the same hp/torque. And rust here would be way worse and I still wouldn't worry plus if you aren't hitting rocks and gouging them there is less chance
