    carole baskin....

if I remember right, you’re 20-21yo right? Somewhere around there? I’m not a whole lot older, but my advice is this... take it for what it’s worth. Whatever you want to do, will eventually fall into place if you don’t know. I work in HR now, if you had told me that 6 years ago I would be here I would have laughed at you. Start out doing something you think you’ll enjoy and take every opportunity that comes your way and run with it.

Truth. I’ve been a cop for 4.5 years, it was a passion for a long time, and now I’m starting to wonder if it’s time for something else.

Was born into it. I’m not currently doing it but still my goal once everything settles down. I’ll work on equipment and do side jobs until then.

24 in a few months, good perspective, thanks.

I thought I wanted to go full time with the PD but it’s just not worth it now, especially when I share the same perspective as the officers that have been getting fired (Washington and California) for refusing to enforce BS.

Never go Army, I learned that in college (from buddies) but AF, Navy, or *gasp* coast guard seem happy.

If I did what I was born into I would have to commute 1800 miles to work but I would be making 150K+/yr after 2-3 years, I just don’t want to do it.

    Hey, same age.

The only LEO job I could see myself being happy with is county sheriff department, being from WA and knowing a bunch of them. They answer to a local individual who has to be part of the community and get reelected every few years, which is way different from a governor (SP) or a city bureaucracy (local PD). Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I remember you from the Gym and Fitness thread, were you trying to go Coast Guard? A couple of my buddies out here were trying to talk me into it. Of course this time last year I was trying to leave my nice civilian job and go Navy OCS, but after meeting with a bunch of people doing what I was going to be doing, I decided it wasn't for me. My recruiter then told me I was making a huge mistake and could never, ever be considered for any officer position in any branch. It's been months, and a junior recruiter called me last week. Good stuff. Still something I'm strongly considering once I accomplish some things here.

Honestly the big takeaway is stay focused. It's hard sometimes, but keeping at it is worth it. If you liked your direction at the start, that's the only way to get where you want to be. It's easy to lose sight of it in the everyday mix. I did for awhile. But as Kenny G (rip) would say, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away.

Yep, county sheriff even now is iffy (to me), and I don’t think that I would consider PD.

Yep, I’m kinda torn on full time or reserve USCG, I kind of want to stay local but at the same time I’m in a rut where I’m at, work 4 10’s for work and then the weekend I’m working (usually for free) for my parents either on a project at their house, their boat, or working out at their property getting it ready for them to build a hangar/shop on.

Kenny G or Kenny Rogers? Sorry, yes, focus, something I loose easily, Yes, I need to keep focus.

I'd love to go gunners mate and either be a firearms instructor or maintainer with ancillary duty as a boarding crew member.

Army has lowest morale for a reason, it’s also why they’re the easiest to get into.
The coast guard is small enough that crap is minimized, you have your job and you have your ancillary duties.
Of all the service men and women that I know the least happy are army, Air Force loved it, Coast guard really misses it and Marines miss it, hell my army buddy just went Air Force because of the BS in the army, he’s happy with the Air Force.

Unfortunately no, it was Grandpas truck and my sister and I bought it for sentimental value, ordered $200 in parts just today and I’ve gotta replace the rear tires also, has the 5.0 and AOD in it though, 267,000 miles.
