Good stuff. Are you trying to stay local to where you are now? Is the job market sparse or is it just flooded?

Hands on is key. I like seeing the work and getting my hands dirty or working with others to show them how to do the work. I don't think i'd make it plugging away at a computer all day. And computers (hardware and software) changes so fast, i can't really keep up with it. People think i know about computers but i don't, i'm just good at problem sloving.

The problem with nursing in my area is that the program is so good, there are people that wait years to get on it. I don't really care to wait.

Forestry only interests me because i love the outdoors and have grown up partially in the woods. I'm just not sure i want to study plants and such for a lifetime....and no offense to any one but i couldn't be a park ranger or natural resource officer.

And mechanics don't make shit anymore. :( i've seen the tole its taken on many family friends from lifetimes of working on their feet and not enough money

I also am trying to learn all i can about business and finance. I would love to own or be a part of a family business either full time or on the side.

I just really hate that life has be come so monitary based...i want to be able to maintain a certain standard of living, pursue all of my hobbies and interests, and still be able to eventually support a whole family as well. And finding a job that would make me happy and still make that kind of money is becoming increasingly difficult. I just want to spend as many days as i can happy and smiling. Not worrying about my future. I just need to fall into something that i love doing that makes a shit load of money....i just haven't found it yet.

okay ill give people cutting up a cow and not understanding it but a chicken...

I always tell people to get the pork tenderloin and just cut into their own chops which they get like 10-15ish but some are like but the precut ones taste better (they are the same cut of meat we just make it and cut maybe half for the same price) but I guess thats why we stay in buisness.

I'd like to stay in the state but I've been applying elsewhere as well. The process is super slow...but the main issue is hiring preferences that keep screwing me over.

I had a dream job, exact city where I wanted to live, what I wanted to do, great pay, I was the number one choice...but some veterans applied and with the way the system works...even though they were a lot less qualified for the job than I was, they hired them. :(

Money isn't everything. That's the one thing I hated about school. Everytime I would here someone ask someone else about what they want to do with their lives the FIRST thing they'd say is, "oh, they make a lot!" or whatever. If you do what you really enjoy then it's not even like going to work.

When I was younger, computers/electronics interested me a lot. I could tell you the ins and outs of every new iPod or whatever that came out. I could write programs and studied all the computer programming languages. I could have went to college for something like that and made a shit ton of money in the future, but why? Then I'd have to put on a suit everyday and drive my fancy BMW to work to sit at a desk and waste my life. Nah, instead, I love traveling and the trucker lifestyle. So I chose to wait and go OTR. Sure, I'll make shit money, but who cares? I'll be happy as fuck. And at the end of the day, which one really matters more?

I hear you on the nursing wait, my sister in law is in Nebraska for nursing school, we actually locally here have one of the best nursing programs in the country but like your area, there is a huge wait list and it's extremely competitive. She started school in CO and did 2 years there before transferring to NE to finish with her degree. Nursing is a lifetime career opportunity so it's worth the wait if you can get in, she's also spending a fortune on education (about 170k), which is another negative unless you're rich.

I have a friend that works in forestry here for a private company in California, I don't remember offhand her degree or what she actually does for her job, but she's definitely not studying plants. :)

Auto mechanics is a dying industry, contrary to what WyoTech and UTI want you to think. Your grandfather could've made a decent living for himself and his family doing mechanic work, you still can now too, but it's a lot harder to get ahead there IMO.

Can't fault them for that, but that definitely sucks. Considered looking for work in the mean time with your BA side?

I was taking auto courses, and had a job at a ford dealer, but there are no local (Closer than 45 minutes each way) college that offer auto courses, and then working at the dealer I saw all the electronics in the new vehicles and I just didn't like it as much as working on basic vehicles.

The diesel tech at the dealership made bank though.

What school did she transfer to in NE I wonder if its the one my mom went to?

I would have love to go into a mechanics job in either a auto shop or aerospace engineer but both are falling down alot i watch the aerospace one fall quite a bit at delta
