I might be buying a new laptop, as my current one is starting to run funny due to software issues.

Good timing considering Black Friday. But the laptop I want won't ship until mid-December and I won't have an address for it to ship to at that time :(

Used to build desktops all the time in High School. Haven't had the time or room to build one lately. I travel to often to have a desktop as my primary computer and I live on the third floor of a dorm room so I'm waiting until I have a house to build another desktop.
Never been a fan of the operating system. For the same price I can get a Windows laptop with better hardware.

Not that they aren't good laptops, just isn't sensible for what I do.

But they last, and so many people rave about them.

I'm just upset that my $1000 business grade HP laptop now runs like shit only 6 years after purchase. It takes like 5 minutes just to turn on

For basic tasks, they're great. But every time I touch an Apple computer more than 3 years old it seems too slow haha

When was the last time you cleaned up or restored your laptop? 6 years is a pretty good run by computer standards. That's like expecting your 6 year old phone to still be able to keep up with current technology. Things advance too fast.

I deleted a bunch of shit and did a disc defrag, didn't help at all. I moved on to a cheapo walmart laptop and it does okay for homework and shit but its not much faster....

Honestly, i should probably just build a desktop....but i know nothing about building computers

Yeah, depending on the specs it may just be out of date and not be able to handle much anymore.

Building a desktop isn't hard, especially if you buy what's called a barebones kit. Comes with nearly everything you need, you just put it together yourself. You can buy $1,000 worth of parts and build a desktop that would cost $2,000 to buy for the same specs haha

Well, this winter i have an AR to build which will keep me busy. Guess i could've done a PC instead for the same money

HOWEVER, lifetime of the AR >>>>>> lifetime of the desktop

I taught myself in a week during high school finals. Wasn't required to be at school but stayed in a computer room looking up tutorials a couple hours per day. I went to a few different sites, mainly lifehacker.com. Spent 1200, and now that I know more I didn't build it as good as I could have. Bought the best CPU and MOBO available but was bottlenecked by the GPU.

Teach me how to build an AR I'll teach you how to build a computer

Lower receiver, put parts kit in it, Attach upper, Sight in with open sights, attach accessories, put accessories to use and sight in with optic (if applicable). Train train train train train train some more, then train again.

Thats pretty much all i'm doing. May buy wheels instead of my upper :notsure:
