The 16 Tacoma is really not as bad as some of these threads would indicate

Looking at sales of 50,000+ trucks. I don't see issues with a lot of trucks. Certainly the press would jump all over a bad design and complaints.

My thoughts on the transmission:. It is normal to hunt around since the truck is designed to get as much out of a gallon of fuel. Therefore the truck likes to stay at 1100 RPM. My trucks does the same but I don't see that as an issue. ECT cured that as well as paddle shifting at a cost to fuel economy

People jump on issue threads which is a good thing as we are almost forced to find and resolve our own issues. Dealers seem to be hesitant to lay claim to specific issues even though a few trucks have them

Like our howling issue at 35-45mph. Toyota never really came out with a solution. But then again only about 20 or so of us even had this issue. So I cannot say it is a widespread issue and some may have it but not consider it an issue,

When I read these threads I just don't see a huge problem with the truck, Some of it are OCD owners. Little rattles and buzzes can drive me crazy. My 15 had a buzz behind the glove box. I stuffed microfiber cloths in there and solved that issue.

Some of the issues are concerning but I would say with over 50K trucks sold, we have been very lucky we don't have GM type recalls...
    "
What I don't understand is why Toyota would design a truck for people 6'2" and UNDER....except that the Japanese are smaller than Americans. When I order shoes or clothes from AliExpress I have to get XXL and a shoe size bigger.

I would focus on the POSITIVE rather than the negative. If there is something we don't like about the truck (such as the hoopla over the grill) It's easily rectified.

you always hear 'the problems" and never hear about the people who are happy with what they purchased and don't have issue, I'm the latter half. Unless of course you think the tranny hunting an issue. I don't.

Nor do I. But I was ready to give up the truck if I could not get the Howling resolved. I cannot imagine how few trucks had this issue when the LCA is the same on all trucks. The transmission is a non starter for me. I understand toyota's design intent and see it in play when I drive. It can be over come though. As far as body lib=nes and fit and finish it stands tall as far as I am concerned.

the howling was an interesting find...a good set of lower control arm armor will get rid of it as well.

I completely agree i love my new truck. When i started reading all the negative things it started making me paranoid, and questioning my choice in a 3rd gen. I came from a 2015 base 4x4 5 speed 2.7 AC. When i test drove my 16 i couldnt believe how much quiter it was and how well it drove. I have zero complaints.

I implore anyone to read the "what have you done thread...." no complaints in there and just a bunch of happy owners enjoying their truck.

The more you read forum posts (I don't care if it's a Lexus or BMW) The more we will become a tad paranoid as the complainers are usually the thread starters. Not to say their complaint is not important on some level, but it's not like the few 2014 Corvettes that lunched their engine at stop lights and even Car and Driver's long term review Vette lunched an engine and had all kinds of issues to about 30K. THOSE are REAL issues.

When someone else has an issue we LOOK for the same in our own trucks. We would not have even noticed if it were not posted.

Mine had the howling noise (fixed now) and the hood does vibrate, but those are all easy fixes. I think some people just want to find shit to complain about.

I try to say my positive experience every time I get a chance on here, but sometimes I think I'm probably just building a reputation as a fan boy ... you'll never convince the legion of non-owners who are 100% sure that the 3rd gen is the worst thing ever put on the road, and they seem to pop up in ever single thread about problems, "yup, this is why I'm not selling my _____ and getting a 3rd gen until 2019" ... :anonymous:

It's funny that when threads get pinned to the top, they become invisible. I skip right past all the stickies to find threads with new responses...

Agreed, OP. I also think that because we are in a forum setting, the complaints and issues seem to be magnified. I have yet to meet someone in person that is not satisfied with their third gen- it's because we are online, and naturally, people who are having issues with their truck (whether it be imagined, real but not a cause for much concern, or a true issue,) are more likely to post online about it. Just think about it- most people only leave comments on review sites if they are complaining about something. We are quicker to point out flaws than good things.

It's natural for us to complain about things. I see people complain about things that go their way. We all want perfection and even in the second gen or first and even eventually fourth there will be issues and complaints. I have transmission issues but it's documented so I'm not worried to much about it. I enjoy my truck and what it offers and don't regret buying it one bit.

    ^ 100% agreed!
Also, people gotta realize that with this being the first year of the redesign, there are going to be some issues. This is why I never buy the first model year of anything.

My biggest complaint is the way the dealers and Toyota are handling these issues. Instead of working with the customer they seem to be working against us. In my opinion the low tranny fluid is a big issue and after months of phone calls and headaches I finally found a CS agent and dealer to help me. Turns out it was low and now that it's filled to the correct levels the truck runs fine. Now after running low for almost 1000 miles did this do any long term damage? Other than that I like the new Tacoma and hope this was the only issue I'll have to deal with.

Fortunately the issues we've heard about are not safety related... except for the guy on here with the locking brake issue. It's too early for a recall to form, unless safety related.

I'd like to get a quicksand Sport double cab. The more I read the 3rd Gen pages, the more I'll wait until the little annoying are resolved.
