The 16 Tacoma is really not as bad as some of these threads would indicate

Just don't read reviews from owners on edmunds.com. Not at all favorable over the 60+ reviews.

When dealers start complaining to Toyota about issues preventing the sales of trucks THAT is when we we should say "NASA we have a problem" and sit out.

That is not happening.here on the forums (Judging from my "Who is playing the waiting game" thread). It's getting longer and longer despite the "problems"

, The issues are not widespread and most all of them can be discovered on a thorough test drive

The dealer is not the problem here. They have not received the memo about the transmission fluid. They mostly don't know what to do and are not tasked with solving manufacturing issues but they are made to be the Villain anyway. There are bad dealers though. I find the transmission fluid issue to be concerning but dealers have not been told to make that check as a TSB. IF they drive the truck and it IS slipping more than normal , I have little doubt they would look at the fluid. But people are asking for that check who are not exhibiting symptoms. I even thought to pay to have mine checked if I felt it was necessary.

But I believe Toyota NEEDS this roll out to be strong and problem free. Judging from the sales month over month most issues are happening to a very small percentage and some OCD buyers.

Reminds me of someone watching a bad Home invasion news story happening in LA from their home in Kentucky and getting up to lock their doors.

I don't live in a place where I cannot keep my doors unlocked if I am home (or away as I have discovered oops) . But even I get a tad paranoid in a movie theater after watching the news. My wife has a CCA so I don't worry too much. LOL

We thought if we were going to be attacked they would go after the guy first giving her time to resolve the issue, But all in all SHE is paranoid .....

It really isn't that bad, and as always bad news travels faster than good news. Also, as we already know, some will bitch and moan about ANYTHING, and nothing will ever be up to their standards no matter what, so there's no reasoning with those people.

I have a '16 TRD Sport 4x4 Automatic, and really do love the truck so far. Aside from some strange behavior from the transmission (intermittent clunking from 2nd to 1st gear when coming to a stop, and having the transmission actually slip into neutral for no apparent reason while driving down a residential road twice now) and having it to the dealer twice but they were unable to replicate the problem. Yep, it sucks to have these things happen, but hey, it is what it is. I also have a 7yr/100k warranty that I got a great deal on, so I'm not too worried.

I've already towed 3,000+ plus lbs with it from Denver to San Francisco, and had no issues. Again, the people whining, bitching and moaning probably don't even own one, and/or they haven't even towed with theirs yet, so take whatever most say about it with a grain of salt.

With all that said, I will say that it was and wasn't an easy decision to go with the new Tacoma. No buyer's remorse here at all, and I am just calling it like I see it. I almost went with a truck form a domestic maker, simply because, at least upfront you really do get more truck for your money. Better appointed, the same or possibly better mpg, and I could have got a full rise instead of a mid-size. At first it was a no-brainer (or at least seemed to be), but the more I looked at the details I really didn't care all that much about bells and whistles, and just wanted something that was stout, reliable and had killer resale. Unfortunately the domestic brands may have one or two of those criteria ticked off the list, but not all three, and I chose the Toyota knowing that. Also, even though I could have bought a really nice full size truck for the same money, I really have zero use for a full-size truck, and a full-size would actually be more of a pain in the ass for me since I unfortunately do have to drive into a major city now and then and have to deal with parking, navigating tight city streets, etc. I didn't buy a truck because I needed a truck all the time, so the Tacoma is perfect. I do feel like the '16s are a bit overpriced for what you get given that the domestic brands do seem to pay more attention to the creature comforts and fine details, BUT it doesn't seem to stop people from buying the Tacomas obviously. Plus, if I was more concerned about those things I'd have bought something else, not a truck.

Those who complain either have nothing better to do, or as perviously mentioned are the type that always complain, or they just aha nothing better to do. Also, there are probably those that exist that just bought the truck without doing any research beforehand, and now that they have a vehicle that doesn't suit their needs, they will blame the truck instead of their own ignorance and because they didn't do their homework.

6000 miles on mine, no issues at all. No hood issues, driveline vibrations, or howling noise. I did hear what I thought was a howl once when I got a strong crosswind on the highway, but never again.

Will get the tranny fluid looked at when I take it back in.

There are a lot of us out there that are very happy with the truck. I have a TRD OR Double Cab 4x4 with 5100 miles on it. Was lurking the forums for my first month with the truck, but think its time to get involved. There's no "Post about another issue free day getting 20+ mpg in your relatively quiet 2016" thread. Oh wait, is this that thread?

Reading threads at times turned my behavior into what could be considered a truck hypochondriac. I'd read an issue and then think...my truck might have that, maybe I'm just not a keen observer like these guys. This isn't the case however.

Only "problems" to note with the truck that EVERY new buyer will experience are: Garbage stock tires, ~1,000 miles of your transmission learning your driving, and an ugly grill. The rest appear to be case by case.

That being said, my condolences to the guys dealing with a vibrating truck. I filed with Toyota, if enough people contact Toyota direct there should be a TSB in a matter of time. Not to mention that problems like this could impact the resale value, regardless of whether or not it displays certain behaviors, on all of our trucks. I'm not sure about you guys, but high resale value is what pushed me to get a 2016 over a 2014, for instance.

Contrary to what people may think, the truck does not learn you're driving habits. You just become used to/accustomed to the way the new vehicle drives compared to what you were used to and previously driving.
