42 years after filming the racers go by, I managed to not lose the little Super-8 movie reel and converted it to DVD and onto my PC... Just figured out how to put it on YouTube so my Internet friends could have a look at what raced Baja in 1973! 3 minutes, 21 seconds with some 70's jazz added...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MFwbEI3ZHI

This was about 5-10 miles east of Ojos Negros, just past where the pavement ended then (you can see the new highway work on the right).

Did you see the one Toyota? (Ford Couriers were big then, and Stroppe prepped them).

No. And I saw the video twice :notsure:

At what point in the vid was the Toyota?

I remember those Courier trucks. Ive seen a few with V8 that were super cool.

Very cool and surprisingly pretty good video quality. More so than many current cell phone videos uploaded to YouTube these days.

Way cool. I wish I would have been down there during that time. Love Baja, favorite part of Mexico to find remote places and camp. Can still find a lot of roads down there like that, especially on the east side.

Here are some photos from the same race the day before, in Ensenada. One of Rod Hall's Bronco and then I caught Parnelli Jones returning from a test run, in the Big Oly Bronco (the world's first Trophy Truck, long before that name was invented!).

The Big Oly Bronco was the world's first "trophy truck" in concept and purpose. It won the 1971 and 1972 Mexican (Baja) 1000, overall, as well as the 1970 and 1973 Baja 500 races.

Hey, if you guys want to see a bunch of photos I took at Mike's Sky Rancho in July 1974 for the very FIRST SCORE BAJA race, I posted them and other photos (from 1965-1975) I just converted from slides to DVD... They are over on the Baja Nomad forums, here is the link to the thread: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=80549

Here is Rod Hall's Bronco (you saw above from 1973 Baja 1000) at the 1974 Score Baja Internacional (The Score Baja 500)...

LOL, yes... I did have another tune in mind to play with this video, but I have never made a YouTube before, and I didn't know how to add a different song. So, I listened to the dozen that Your Tube had to easily add, and the one I picked reminded me of On Any Sunday, so that is what I did pick!
