I thought it might be helpful for some folks if people post up their experience with the TRD Supercharger.

If anyone has had issues explain what it was and what the fix was.

    2004
    136’ above sea level
    Installed 109000miles
    2nd gen S/C
    Iridium IK22 plugs gap @ .043
    Stock pulley
    No fuel mods
I am occasionally experiencing ping, mostly at highway speeds when I add throttle after maintaining a speed. AKA High gear low throttle ping.

    Future upgrades include

    7th injectior and piggyback or
    Water/Meth injection
    2.2 pulley

Installed new supercharger into new truck in 1998
Grey supercharger 1st gen with 550,000 on supercharger
Added butt screw on top of snout so oil can be changed in 5 minutes WITHOUT removing the supercharger.
Oil change every 25,000 miles now.
Complete rebuild every 150,000, includes new rotor pack plate, recoating rotors, double lip rear seals, high temp double lip nose seal.
Running at 6000 to 12,000 feet.
With 2.2 or 2.1 pulley slight to no ping issues at 7.5 pounds of boost with 2.1.
With 2" pulley 10 pounds of booost there definitely pinging so added
Snow methanol kit stage II progressive using the one gallon wiper reservoir that eliminated the ping.
2" pulley engine needs methonal spray to come on at 4.5 pounds of boost up for me
Methonal nozzle size is a number 1, and I get about 1500 miles per gallon, with perfect AFR.
Number one nozzle tends to plug up after 10,000 miles because it's so small. Easy to just replace it with a new one at 15.00 and cooling is not a great as the number 2 nozzle.
Number 2 nozzle definitely sprays more and a big difference in supercharger temps, cooling effects
I can place my hand on the supercharger without it being too hot even after a hard run.
So I run number 2 nozzle for summer heat.
Number 2 nozzle gets about 400-600 miles per gallon depending on driving. System uses methonal
after 4.5 pounds of boost only.
If you run out of methanol it's no issues driving it under the boost level of 4.5. Using windshield fluid that's 20 negative if needed is ok.
Nozzel 2 raised boost from 9.15 to 10 pounds so rear wheel hp is now 250hp and 270 toque at 6000 feet.
The extra methonal from size 2 nozzel is probably sealing up the rotor pack to gain the extra one pound of boost.

    UPDATE
Ported the supercharger So now I’m running a #3 nozzle,
That gets me about 300-500 miles per gallon of boost juice.
I would suggest inspecting the nozzel and or cleaning it each 10,000 miles, takes 5 minutes to do.
The methonal system works fantastic but is higher maintenance, it addresses
the issues of heat soaked supercharger and because there is no intercooler for these superchargers It definitely can reduce temps 100 degrees.
Remember each added pound of boost adds 10 degrees of heat!

Every engine responds differently to ping and definitely to this setup so this is
what works perfectly for me with zero issues at 6000 feet up to 12,000 in Colorado.

    Your results my be different.
    Ported the supercharger
    #3 spray nozzle
    Stock ECU
    No piggy back
    No fuel mod
2004 injectors, abit larger than 1997
    KN airfilter
    Elbow mod
    Volvo DESNO mod
2" steel pulley, not soft aluminum
URD pulleys are made of soft aluminum and will wear and start slipping around 25,000 miles and will need to be replaced. What happens is the center ribs wear down and loose grip and the belt then rides on the sides of the pulley ears and slip on high load. URD uses a protective coating but will only last a short time.
    High temp nose seal
    DENSO IK22 5310plugs
    Pillar boost guage
    Methonal low level sensor
Methonal low level light sensor next to boost guage

Hello, I know this post is old but I'm knew at this. I just installed the 2nd generation Magnuson Super Charger on my 95 Tacoma 3.4 with the 7th injector system. I also swapped out the ECM with a 97 Tacoma. One issue I have is at around 3000 rpm and up as I throttle hard there's a hesitation unless I back off and slowly throttle up through the rpm which happens in 3rd gear and up. I cleaned the mas airflow sensor checked and triple checked the vacuum hoses, changed the throttle position sensor and I've just changed the fuel filter which was 50% plugged, it seems like it is a little better. Other than that power is good with no additional mods or problems. Would this be a lean out situation or not enough fuel?

I'm no help, but I'm experiencing the same hesitation at 3000k rpms. I haven't been able to find anyone to tune the 7th though so that could be my issue...

If this helps, I emailed gadget about this and one thing he said is the 7th injector system wouldn’t be the reason for this. He asked about the air intake system I’m using which is stock with an upgraded filter. He also recommended having the injectors professionally cleaned. He also knows everything on my truck is stock. So I will add fuel injector additives to a few tanks of gas and see if that works instead.

Hmm interesting, let me know if you figure it out. I'll give some injector cleaner a shot, but at nearly 230,000 miles it's probably time for me to have the injectors professionally cleaned anyways.

You probably should have a AFR guage installed so you know you AFR numbers.

If you run it lean you can toast your motor..

If you don’t want too at least get a dyno.

I would spend 100.00 and get a dyno test that shows your AFR and boost.

Then you will know your next step

I will look into this afr gauge and try to figure out what to do next. I don’t know if there’s a dyno on the island. Thanks for the information
