BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I was thinking I'd use the seatbelt... dopey me forgot the center belt is a complete belt and shoulder harness rig.
    Scratch that.

I got mine apart with a tiny flat head screwdriver. There is a latch under the plastic cover. Now that I think of it...that was my first mod to the truck.

I have a question for you guys. Have any of you installed a trailer hitch? If so does anyone know if the plug and play wiring kits sold by companies such a curt will work with reg cabs?

The 4/5-pin connectors are easy peasy. Remove both taillights, disconnect them, plug the trailer harness into the taillights, plug the trailer harness into the truck, replace the taillights, and you're good to go.
A 7-pin is going to be more complex because the RC lacks the prewiring for the trailer brakes and trailer battery charging.

Go with the gears over the S/C. Do 4.56's, not 4.88's if you're getting on the highway at all. I have 4.88's and I comfortably cruise with semi decent MPG at 65-70mph. I had the same overall internal debate, and a S/C will not help improper gearing, it is a bandaid to the true issue. (I'm also talking about a 33inch tire... not a 265.)

I purchased a 2012 regular cab 4x4 last week and since its a 2.7 I figured it would be appropriate to ask this here. I'm going to lift it soon but how do the regular cab 2.7s do with say a 3" lift? I'd like to stay away from regearing for now so I don't plan to run very big tires. I've been trying to read up on stuff but there are just too many options and everyone is talking in terms that I don't know.

Also how high can I go without having to mess with other stuff like the driveshaft or other parts? I'd like to get something that is pretty straight forward install wise. Honestly have no plans for crawling or any extreme stuff. Just a weekend hunting and fishing vehicle as well as a daily driver.

anything over a 265 tire needs a re-gear. I speak on that from experience. 5th gear is pretty unusable unless you're heading downhill on the highway with 33's. The lift is sort of irrelevant to the gearing, it's the tires that really bog the truck down. 3 inches is pretty much it without spending lots of money.

Okay. I had planned to run 265/75s with a small lift. If I'm not going to be doing a lot of rock climbing(I may do some eventually but nothing serious) what would be a good kit for 2-3"? I keep hearing toytech and ome. Any others?

3" is about the max, and even then your CVs are going to hate you.
If you don't intend to regear and run larger tires, why the big lift? Lifts that are out of proportion to the tires look horrible.... look up "Cen-Cal" for some examples.
They don't gain much in ground clearance since the rear diff is not raised by anything other than the tires, and they increase the odds that you're going to have driveline vibration issues.

And a 2.7? Larger tires are going to kill your fuel economy and low-end pull.
Even with a regear, adding 30+lbs of unsprung weight to each corner is going to hurt.
    265/75s aren't too bad, but I wouldn't go larger.
