I've had this happen to me too many times. Seems to be when I don't give it 20-30 seconds to get itself together after I start it.

I guess its never thrown a cel, my dads got a 2009 and the high idle doesnt seem to rev as high on his. I just changed my plugs and reset the computer I dont think its done it since then. Also.runs alot quieter to. Think it only happens when Im not giving.it any gas and cruising with it on high idle.

Mine pops everytime I start it cold. And i don't think getting in it and just taking off if you take it easy to let it warm up is gonna hurt anything. Unless the temperatures are in the teens I'll warm it up just to get some heat. But otherwise I get in and go. The general public doesn't let them warm up and usually don't have any unusual engine wear issues. It was designed to drive immediately. In my opinion of course.

I had a Nissan frontier that the manual said to let it warm for a few minutes. I had a ford ranger that the manual said no warm up necessary , you're just wasting gas.

Just long enough to plug my phone in, put it in the cradle, allow the GPS to boot up, and fasten my seatbelt.

That's long enough for it to idle down from the 1500 that it starts at... just drive sanely for the first few miles.

Chris4x4 and a couple of other people ran comparisons and after sitting at idle for 20 minutes the engine is not as warm as it is being driven calmly for 10 minutes.

Engines do not heat up quickly at idle, and allowing an engine to idle when cold is very hard on it. The rich fuel mixture blows past the rings and contaminates the oil, the oil is heavier and does not lubricate as well.... it can also hasten the failure of the cat (still going to be a long time though), and of course, it is a waste of fuel.

Every manufacturer AND consumer advocate for the last 40 years has said that it is better from every perspective to simply drive conservatively until the temp is up.

Yeah just long enough to get situated. And I've noticed this year when it get real cold my clutch pedal is slower to come back up. And it doesn't get any better until I drive.

    Hard to tell.

    Just for comparisons' sake...

    check my fuelly.

    2008 2.7 5 speed
    long bed
    bone stock

I do about 75 miles a day, plus or minus road calls

    I get 24-26 mpg

I'm similar to you...70-75 on the turnpike

Top speed and acceleration are the big MPG killers in mine, and the '06 before it

I get 'the light' and start thinking about gassing up around 375-400 a tank

So I am moving back up to Ohio in a few weeks here and was looking at either getting a 2012 camry or subaru legacy but ended up finding a 2008 taco single cab 4x4 with 17k miles on it up there for $17k. Do you all think that is a decent price? Theres another one up there that is a 2011 but with 43k miles for $18k and already has a small lift on it...just has the stock tire/wheels.

curious what you guys paid for your 2nd gen single cabs

ok cool thank you. I do like the 11 more because of the added features. I have never really given much thought into the 4 cylinders until now but I want a truck to haul things around again but cant afford the gas the 4.0 guzzles so I can settle for the 4 cyl. Haven't found an AC with the 4 cyl but I know they are out there. Ive got some reading to do on these engines.

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
Just make sure it's secured appropriately and it in theory would be fine
