Did the body line in the front fender and across the top of the door get harder or was it like that on 2012s too? Never paid attention to it til here.........

It DOES filter options based on where you are. Here in norcal, I was only able to configure 4x4 reg cab as auto.

But when I plugged in a Denver zip code 80210, I could do a 4x4 reg cab 5sp.

I know....I ran to the dealership first chance one Monday morning when I saw they had an 08 prerunner 2.7 5 spd with buckets to trade my 05 access cab in on. They hadn't even cleaned it up and got it ready to sell since they had just got it the Friday before. That day for them to prep it for delivery gave me chance to grab most of my goodies off the 05. Even made a couple of swaps in the parking lot when picking up the 08. No regrets and haven't looked back. I did like my 05 but dig the 08 RC much more.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
My last truck was a Dakota with the second bench seat. Had buckets up front. I hated the trash that accumulated back there so went with the regular cab. I love mine too. Not sure if I'd like the bucket seats since I put stuff next to me on the seat sometimes.

I do too, but without passenger. There is no loss of leg room for me in the reg cab. The seats are in same position as in the access cab and there is surprising amount of storage room behind the seats. More than one would think. The cargo net that hangs from the bed cleats makes up for some of the space missing from the access cab for throwing certain things at certain times too.

RC campin from this past wknd. Plenty of room for my bike, 2 coolers, easy-up, tent, truck tent, chairs, bike tools, camping supply tub & clothes bags. Wasn't any higher than the bedrails.

    Nice!

I want to either get a cap or have a bed rack made up that sits up just a few inches above the top of the rails.

I use my bed too often for odd stuff for a cap or cover to not be a hassle so I just go without. A shell with racks on top is very tempting but the cost and hassle and having to store it in the backyard if needing the bed for something else has kept me from it..........so far. I have the xsporter racks to put kayaks up over truck and still have bed free for same camping stuff......or surfboards depending on camping destinations. The expedition camping trailer beckons much louder than the shell does, lol.

Oh ya... I knew it was regionally sensitive.

California and their CARB version of the EPA having to approve everything is why we don't get manuals in many vehicles.

I think it may be just toyota creating/controlling/responding to market demand in this case. I don't think the regs have changed between 2011 and 2013, and my 2011 reg cab is a 5 speed.

Also, you can get that same engine in 5 speed configuration if it's a 5 lugger.

Basically, the dealers like it if there's a limited number of configurations, so that when you specify the configuration you want - odds are that someone already has one on hand.

So I bet if you worked hard enough, you could get your toyota dealer to order one up. However, since I already have one and don't need one - I've got no reason to find out for sure.

CARB has to individually certify every engine trans combination in every vehicle body style.

Toyota may not have submitted the model due to lower sales than other models, but it's still CARB's fault.

California "lost" the Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 line in 2008, even though it was available in the rest of the country. We didn't have anything bigger than the 900 until the new 1700s came out for 2009.

I like the black center console and I also wonder the odds on that steering wheel working on my 08 without steering wheel controls.
