On your rig I like the rectangular light look better. However, rounds wouldn’t look bad at all.

Hey guys. Had a lift questions for a regular cab. I currently don't have one and would like something moderate. I'm needing new tires by the end of the year but sticking with the 265/70r17. I want something that will lift the truck 2" or close to it. Not really wanting to get UCAs till later on so I know I can't go higher than that and not have problems. My question is what's the best cost efficient way to achieve the 2 inches I'm looking for?

I've read everything from just getting 5100s all around and use the stock springs to using OME 883s or 884 springs and for the rear using AALs and everything else in between. Lots of info is out there for Double Cabs with v6s but I know it's much different for a regular cab. I'd like to keep the path open for later on to go higher when I can afford UCAs but for now I'm just looking to get some extra room for the tires I got till I can go higher.20200627_174048.jpg

My truck has the 885 springs with Nitrocharger 90000 shocks and it sits at least 3" above stock and is pretty stiff. I would go for the 883's or 884's and skip preloading the stock springs with the 5100's. If you go with the 883's and it's not as high as you like, you could always add a 1/4" spacer to get another 1/2" of lift. There is a chart that shows how much lift the different combinations give to the different Tacoma cab combinations but I can't find it right now. I'll keep looking and link it in if I find it.

883s with 5100s may be the answer. It's what I was leaning towards but wasn't entirely sure. What would that give me? Guessing that puts me on 2 inches in front then with the AAL I'll get between 1.5 to 2 inches?
If I buy UCAs later could I just replace the springs and go 3 inches at that time?

I let my truck sit at my rents long enough vermin ate the wiring. The mechanic was able to replace the leeds and stuff. Cost plus towing is $700..

Anyway my rents gave me a problematic Ford fusion so I traded up. I like the subie suspension over the taco on state forest roads.

Alright well it's a bit late but here is the trip report from July 6 - July 13

    July 6:
Left Albuquerque Monday morning and made the 5 hour drive to our dispersed camp spot off FR600 in the Rio Grand NF. Had a little convoy on the way up with my Taco, Delica, and a CRV to meet my buddy with his 470GX.

View from camp, about 10,000 feet with the Rio Grande below.

Part of the group camp setup
    IMG_1937.jpg

GX set up closer to the cliff.
    IMG_1944.jpg

My buddy gettin dinner started in his dear setup in the Delica.
    IMG_1949.jpg

Had a nice sunset the first night.
    IMG_1957.jpg

    July 7:
Made our way up to the Wheeler Geologic Area, 36 mile round trip from our camp spot. Here's a cool write up about the geologic area if you're interested -> https://rootsrated.com/stories/the-fascinating-story-behind-wheeler-geologic-area

On our way up to the site
    IMG_1962.jpg

Open high altitude meadow roughly 10,500ft
    IMG_1965.jpg

Making our hike up to the geologic site. From the parking area its about a half mile in before you get to fork in the trail. It's a large loop but we decided to make our way to the lower portion and explore some of the small canyons.
    IMG_1973.jpg

    IMG_1989.jpg

    July 8:
We left our camp spot off FR 600, our buddy with the CRV brake off and headed back to Albuquerque, and then headed into Creede for some gas and then made our way up hwy 149 to FR520. This graded first road takes you the the "trail head" for Stony Pass roughly 18 miles. From hwy to hwy in Silverton its roughly 50 miles and took us about 4 1/2 hours with an off shoot to Kite Lake.

Making our way up to the "trail head" - I call it the "trail head" because there isn't an official sign/starting point its where the road is no longer graded.
    IMG_2017.jpg

    IMG_2022.jpg

Stopped for an adult soda break
    IMG_2027.jpg

Roughly about mile 24 you hit this mile or so hill climb with big loose shale type rock (im not a geologist so not sure what its actually called) it's a fairly steep. Definitely low range 1st gear considering the weight of the FlipPac and camping gear I just didn't have the power in 2wd or 4Hi haha.

This is at the top of that climb
    IMG_2033.jpg

We decided to take the offshoot up to Kite Lake its about 6 miles one way. pretty easy graded road up to the last half mile then its a little busy and 4x4 and low range, at least when we went it was a good amount of driving through the creek to traction was an issue.

this was at one of the parking areas.
    IMG_2047.jpg

    Kite Lake
    IMG_2050.jpg

And what I think is good pic of my buddy, his girl, and dog.
    IMG_2063.jpg

Made our way back through the tow creek crossing and to the peak, 12,650ft. we had a bit of a snow ball fight during July which is always fun to say.

    IMG_2070.jpg

    IMG_2074.jpg

    IMG_2076.jpg

Making our way down to Silverton, you hit the old mining town of Howardsville and take County road 2 into Silverton.

    IMG_2080.jpg

After getting into the Silverton we headed north on hwy110 and found a great camping spot along Cement Creek. I don't really have any pictures of that area but we got lucky and didn't have any neighbors. The running creek is always some good good to bed sounds.

We woke up the next morning and made our way to Ophir Pass. Super short/easy pass and worth the scenic drive.

    IMG_2093.jpg

We then took hwy149 into Telluride before our buddy the the GX split off and headed home. The Delica and I took Imogene into Ouray.

    At social tunnel.

    IMG_2095.jpg

    IMG_2096.jpg

Stopped at the Tommyboy Mine Site and looked through some of the old structures. Here is a little read on the area if you're interested -> https://westernmininghistory.com/towns/colorado/tomboy/

The guy in the gray talked my buddies ear off about the Delica, he's got that sweet black FJ80.
    IMG_2102.jpg

View from above the Tommyboy Mine Site

    IMG_2110.jpg

Our ascent to Imogene pass. We waited the the bottom the of the climb for a while because there was about 1,000 jeers/sidedxsides making their way down.

    IMG_2114.jpg

    Finally at the peak

    IMG_2118.jpg

Making our way down to Ouray.

This 3rd gen dude stopped my buddy to tell him he's insane taking a van through Imogene haha.

    IMG_2122.jpg

After making our way down Imgene we headed up to Yakee Boy Basin but I don't have green pictures of that. Afterward we headed into Ouray and check into you AirBnb for the night.

    July 10:
We split ways with the Delica and started making our way to Marble. Along the way we stopped at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison but thats were I stopped taking pictures. On the 12th we made our way back to Albuquerque.

    IMG_2140.jpg

    IMG_2153.jpg

Overall a really great trip, I highly recommend gettin out and going to the wooded areas.

Toyota also put the 2.7 in a 4 door short bed 5 lug. Very rare beast for sure. Only 5 lug truck that came stock with the fender flares.

Not super difficult in all honesty, took me a few days to leisurely do it (seriously, if I had all the parts and was motivated, could have done it in an hour or two). Wired up the seatbelts in the new seats instead of just stuffing the old receptacles under the seats with dummy buckles, so that's cool. Thankful I don't have airbags in the seats, so everything was super easy. Transferred ALL the old wiring from the bench and no lights are on my dash. Cut my holes in the carpet a little big, but nobody will see them.

I just need to grind down the buckle on the current seat belts. Toyota decided for some reason the bench seat require a wider buckle, they just need to be ground down to fit. Should have snagged the belts out of the donor truck, but didn't really think about it at the time. Would be great to also find the carpeted piece that goes behind the seats/back of cab, but that piece seems to be extremely hard to find. Since I'm doing interior stuff, I may go ahead and upgrade my speakers soon.
