Nice camper shells, guys. The regular cabs really look good with a shell on them. Akin to the original 4Runners — I’ve always liked the look.

Its been a while since I've done some work on the truck, but now that it's no longer my daily I'm excited to be able to get back to adding to it.

Should I get a shell for my 06 reg cab? They look mighty nice/sporty but I'm wondering if I'll grow to hate it as I can't put tall things inside the bed anymore.

Get a Softopper, then you can go topless any time you feel like it.

Soft topper is a good option. Since I decided not to “overland” outfit my truck in the future I’ve been thinking about a shell. In doing so I’ll lose the handy-dandy nature of my toolbox, but ultimately wind up with a more useful truck. I can still haul lumber, and I’ve got a good trailer if I need to haul something tall or weirdly cumbersome.

Actually, there’s so much I could and probably would do to my truck if I had a secondary work truck. I’ve wanted to find a low mileage single cab 4X4 Gen 1 Tundra, but those things are usually beat to hell when one does go up for sale. I know there’s one out there , somewhere, but by the time I’d see it some other person is gonna snatch it up, haha.

I got sidetracked — a camper shell is a great option, and they look good on our trucks.

Also, soft toppers weigh as much as a flea, so you wouldn’t be losing really any payload — should you or someone else choose to go that route.

I was worried about putting in the rollbar getting in the way of hauling brush/branches since I seem to run to the dump almost 20 times a year. I just ran a load over the weekend and it was not an issue. I always thought about a shell but I'm sure that would be a pita with brush.

Do you think a toolbox would still fit in the back of your truck with your roll bar in place? Is doesn’t appear that it could sit up against the forward most part of the bed, but possibly between the roll bar posts on both sides.

Worth the expense and increased weight? I'm trying to decide between a hard shell and a rack to go over my softopper

A toolbox that sits on top of the bedsides would need to be somewhat narrow, like around 12-14" front to back to hope to open the lids if they open from the sides. If you wanted a box that fit up against the front of the bed between the 2 front bars, it would need to be less than 42" wide side to side (but remember, I widened this bar 5" to get it pushed out to the sides farther).

I see what you’re saying, and I just realized that a tool box lid may not open fully before it’d hit the rear bars. I appreciate you going to the trouble to take those pictures.

Ya getcha man really been trying to get out camping at the least and figured the CO really wasn't terrible considering we camped and really only went into town for gas. Although I'm getting out of town again this Friday for a couple of nights up in Nothern NM, its monsoon season here so hopefully we don't get hit too hard with the weather up at elevation *knock on wood*.

Anyway, 10,000' really isn't too noticeable (I live at about 5,300' so my truck might already run like shit to notice the difference) but once we were getting around 12,000' and above it was much more noticeable and had to drop into 4Lo for some steep sections I'd have no issue in 2wd at a lower elevation. Although I do have some weight with the FlipPac and gear/food for two people so it's a pretty fat booty an unloaded truck might have a different story.

Haha ya that Delica is super impressive and way more capable than people think but it is definitely sketchy watching it wheel it always looks like it's about to flop.

Well if you ever happen to be in NM or the 4 corners area let me know I'd be happy to meet up and get some trails in. I rolled 60k during the trip so took care of a bunch of things before we left so didn't really do a whole lot when we got back other than a good wash. I am noticing a bit of a shake in the brakes at why speeds so I need to check on the rotors may have warped them a bit using the brakes instead of gearing like a dummy. I've had this truck for about year and a half and before that more or less the same truck for ten and a half years before that so I've pretty gotten used to any weaknesses by now like the engine power but just learned to drive differently and zero issues but I do enjoy the mpg can't complain about the 22 average I got on the trip.
