I think a big reason nobody wants to make a reg cab short bed truck is because of the gas mileage requirements. Since that is based on the wheelbase of a vehicle, the reg cab is as short as a lot of cars but there's no way they will get the mpg a car will. GM now makes them again, but the only available engine is the turbo 2.7 4 cyl. I never understood why Toyota stopped making them or offering a real engine that makes at least 200 hp. The price on a loaded up reg cab short bed truck is ridiculous. My 2010 Silverado Z71 reg cab truck stickered for over $45K back then and it still doesn't have every option! No way I'm paying that much for a 2 seater truck.

EV changes things. EV RC makes sense again. And would be worth $35-$40k in my book even as a 2 seater. Add a middle seat (no need for any sort of shifter / gear selector, no need for an axle hump) and now you've got a good setup for most truck needs. A compact EV pickup w bench seat and 3 point seatbelts / modern airbags in a fun form factor would just rule, I'd sell 2 of my 3 trucks for that in a heatbeat.

Though, as I follow this (not about to jump in early) I applaud the price point (perfect) and dimensions (also perfect, though I'd prefer an exact 72" bed to a 71" but that's pretty nitpicky) but the towing certainly sucks, no payload mentioned, no weight given, and 0-60 is truly terrible for an EV. Hard to tell if the center console is a viable seat or not, feels like a missed opportunity, how I do love my '02 Tundra's bench seat which can fit both kids comfortably (perhaps not excessively safely though).

Styling, compared to what I remember from earlier prototype photos, looks marginally lame to me, like an '80's Datsun in terms of looks. Kind of a missed opportunity, a spot where the Rivian sets a bold standard and the F150 Lightening fails to even show up to play ball. It definitely counts as "unique" but it's not something I immediately feel a desire to own which I will say is the case for every Toyota truck I've bought.

Still, I'll keep an eye out as this progresses, it's the closest production option to what I really want (EV conversion of my '05)

Be perfect for those cross country trips to see the In-Laws! By time you get there you have a good excuse to turn around to go back home with that 275 mile range.
Also great for hunters and over lander’s because you never need GPS or get lost! Just follow the 250 mile extension cord back out.
Maybe have Tesla setup charging stations all over BFE!
At least their are more charging stations then E85 stations!

There's no sign that Alpha Wolf truck (or any of Alpha's ev's) is really being developed. If it had a better looking front end, I would consider it since I don't even drive 5K miles a year. But I would prefer someone to make a mid size reg cab whether it be a Tacoma, Canyon, Ranger, Nissan, etc.

Me 2, definitely got an eye on the EV Tacoma once it hits.
Neighbor receiving their R1S on Saturday, I'm excited for them, more fun to enjoy what other people pay for :)

So thinking of getting a Hardtop Cap for my SC. From searching TacomaWorld in the last hour, so DC and AC Hard Toppers / Cap don't exactly fit our SC. Does anyone have a picture of a SC with a AC/DCLB Topper so I know what to look for? Thanks in advance.

The back of the single cab is more vertical than than the AC/DC models. I slid this one back as far as I could to keep it from rubbing on the cab mount brake light, and it works really well. That being said, if I saw an RC specific shell pop up nearby at a good price, I’d probably make the switch.

Sir none of my damn business but you could always pull off the red lens and trace the shape onto a 1/16” or whatever piece of aluminum, pull out the bulbs and screw the aluminum in place of the plastic lens to keep water out of the back of the cab. Sorry just me thinking out loud…

Just bought it. Been looking for a 2nd gen regular cab for awhile. 2014 base model, 4wd, 5spd, 69k miles. Can't wait to start the mods.

I've had mine for over 4 years. I love it. It had 3800 miles on it when I got it.
Enjoy that thing. They don't make em' like that anymore...

Exactly. This is my 4th 2nd gen, I've had 5 1st gens. When I seen this one pop up, luckily 30 minutes from home, I knew I had to get it.
