Update on the vibes. I jacked up the rear axle and I know I hear a very slight thump when I spin the drivers rear by hand. Thinking a wheel bearing is at least part of the problem. Also seem to have a small exhaust leak on the muffler so some resonance probably enhances a lot of vibes. Prolly gonna fix those and go from there. I know I need an alignment too. With those 3 things settled I’m hoping it gets rid of the vibes. Def will decrease them tho
Idk what mileage I joints and wheel bearings go out at but I only greased the u joints at 110k miles (owned since 57k) and Maine is known for being very harsh on vehicles between potholes, sea salt air, and road salt in winter. Sitting at 123k miles now

So I have a 07 Single Cab with 2010 Off road front and rear shocks with at least 80K on the suspension and feel like I'm bouncing around in there. I have a set of 2020 DC SR5 w/ 60K miles that will be coming off my 3rd gen. Does anyone know if the stock 3rd gen suspension will improve the ride quality over the 2010 OR w/ 80K on it? Thanks

Anyone know if a whirring sound from the auto trans is normal while brake-standing or climbing a steep (60*+) embankment in high gear? Trying to see if my torque converter is fried

I see a manual swap in your future hahaha…
Sorry the only thing I know about autos is I hate them. I should have an R155 w/ approx 35k miles for sale here shortly. I’m still searching for someone to LS swap our 07 5 lug reg cab.
Hopefully the 375 plus WHP and 28 mpg on reg pump gas will be worth it…

Just out of curiosity, why build a 5 lug for that kind of power? Wouldn’t it make sense to have stronger wheels and axles of 6 lug?

Who says they are stronger? It’s the same other then the studs and the length… I’m running 6 lug gears & springs!
(excuse the anti-seize on the exhaust)

Cool just let me know! But can I ask a stupid question? How does one ship to HI without spending an arm and a leg?

Good luck Dave by time you buy a good condition 1GR-FE from another Tacoma then the not the best 6 speed manual transmission and then a new Toyota PCM / computer and who knows what you have to charge on the wiring harness. Good luck because the few Toyota techs I talked to said good luck! It’s very rare that anyone swaps a I4 for a V6. I asked these questions myself because that was my first thought myself! Just a 1GR-FE a good set of headers with a good exhaust system then maybe a supercharger would be so sweet.
But please see what you can find out because my LS swap is getting out of hand way out of hand.

I’d keep the 5MT. I love the old school trans.

Me TOO but from what I was told they don’t fit together otherwise I would have taken on that project!
But maybe I was given the wrong information… Who knows? Maybe @Torspd does? He installed a T-56 in place of the Toyota 6 spd. The trans I wish that would fit is the CD009 or CD00A. I actually know someone who has new CD00A. A nice close ratio 6 spd with just one OD gear.

Jeff says it can be done? But that’s I think written for tran swap rather than engine swap. I’ve never done an engine swap so I’m not qualified to speculate. Wife wants me to sell it so treading lightly.

The 5 speed from the 2TR can swap onto the 1GR. There are bellhousings that fit for that swap. I am just not sure if any older engines came with the proper bellhousing for that, which could be easily sourced. That research would need to be done. In the some foreign markets, South America and Middle East, the 1GR came with the 5 speed. So there is a "current" bellhousing that was manufactured specifically for that union.
