I am thinking I will just tap it into the one of the lights connected to the dimmer switch. I think it is green / green-white wire.

Anyways, here are all the parts I salvaged and am using.

I installed the lens and mounted the light. It is kinda hard to capture the full effect with the console in the house currently but here are the best pics I could take currently. I probably should have mounted it just a tad higher but oh well.

It is barely noticable with it off just like it was in my old 2007 Tundra. No one knows it is there until the light is on.

Tip: I used a 7/32 drill bit for a perfect fit for the lens.

Nice. I assume it's only 2 wires? How are you planning on wiring it in the truck?

How did you mount the light and all on the inside of the console?

I just tapped into the green and green/white wire that goes into the A/C controls. Those are the wires that light up those controls. Green is power and Green/White is variable ground for the dimmer switch. If you don't want the light to dim then I would just ground it somewhere else where it stays on and doesn't dim (when you turn the headlights on), your choice. I don't normally like to tap into wires but this is just a little light.

The A/C controls bezel is pretty easy to pop off without having to remove any other part of the dash.

I used adhesive weatherstrip (yes, I know) but it actually stays in place very well, plus the weatherstrip seals up the light into the bezel as well.

I thought about using two little bolts to mount it to the inner box but I didn't feel like drilling holes into the box.

The final result. I have mixed feelings about it because I felt I should have mounted it just a little higher but oh well. It works for me because I wanted a soft light that isn't overpowering for the small cabin of the regular cab.

The cup holders being black is probably just part of the problem. I may try a little brighter LED down the road but I will swing with this for now.

Now I just need to clean the interior. It got dirty from all this work.

These......lettering is gray. Thought about trimming the toyota racing development verbage leaving just sr5 offroad but......still unsure and decals in their sleeve. Maybe trim all and just use sr5 and nothing else not even mountains......

I will never put anything "TRD" or "Toyota Racing Development" on my Tacoma or any Toyota I own. The only exception I had to make was the "TRD" that was on top of the supercharger and airbox when I added the TRD supercharger to my old 2007 Tundra. Just a personal preference as I hate overblown marketing stuff.

    Back to the drawing board.....

I wasn't too thrilled with the initial OEM light that I adopted into my Tacoma console but it did work ok. I just wanted it to point downward more to the cupholders and not the cabin itself. It worked great in my Tundra though for some reason. I guess it was pointed more downward but I haven't had that Tundra for some time now so I can't really see what made the difference.

I decided to order an non-OEM light. I am pretty big on keeping things OEM but in this case I had to make an exception since I couldn't go back unless I wanted to buy a new console box. The end result is much much better for me personally and it looks pretty OEM'ish to me as well. This light did require some further modification to make it fit as I had to remove the silver part of the back end of it or it would interfere with the console box. I used hot glue to hold all of the internals and wiring inside the housing after removing that silver part.

I got the warm 2700K version here (I didn't want it to be too bright). https://www.superbrightleds.com/rec...000k-6500k+color-Natural~4000K+packamt-Single

These lights are dimmable also which works with dimmer control.

So, do you think the tundra light would have been better if you had drilled the hole a little higher up?

I believe so. The tundra light setup was definitely a cleaner and better (IMHO) installed look too but it wasn't illuminating the cupholders as well as I thought it would like it did when in my old Tundra.

Since you are starting from new, assuming you got all the parts as you said you did order them, I would experiment and try to at least to get the light where it will shine downward towards the cupholders more. It was my mistake not to do this before I drilled the hole for the lens. Also make be careful with the lens as it is delicate and make sure there is no glue where the light shines through once you set it into place.

Thanks for the insight. Yes, I ordered all 4 parts you listed earlier in the thread, they arrived a couple days ago. Now I'm just waiting on the console pieces, ordered at the end of September, supposed to be at sparks Toyota February 10th. :annoyed:

3rd gen trd offroad suspension swap is completed. Added headstrong 1/4" spacers both sides and 1" block in the rear with archive garage ubolt flip kit. The ride is day and night better. Also installed the upper control arms and Radesigns inner splash guards in the front.

yeah, so what about sr5 by itself? I don't really feel the need or urge to put any TRD signage other than the white TRD grill badge on it. Just because it has trd front skid, tow hook, tow hitch, gas tank skid, skewpt hood, sport blinker mirrors, storage bins, black sunvisors and such doesn't make it TRD.....it is really an sr5 so just that would be all that gets used.......maybe, contemplation still in progress lol.......the gray would match whats left of gray interior that didn't get black.....or sell them to someone more sure about using them.....
